The meat and potatoes of starting an online business from home would take a whole lot more to write about. What I am going to share here are the basics to help give you a good picture of what you should expect when starting your online business. Once you get the hang of it, you will wonder why you did not do earlier! Alright, here we go.
The Passion
I am putting this in very loose terms but what you are looking for here is to unearth what your purpose in life is. Take time to dig into yourself and what drives you. What can you talk about for ages without getting tired because you just love it? Movies, or the latest gadgets on the market? Politics? How to help people with special needs? Parenting? Whatever it is, make at least a list of the top 5.
And don’t tell me that you are not good at anything. I have a friend who loves to talk. He married that with his love for teaching and that is all he does, in his own words ” talk for a living” all the while empowering people like me to live life to their full potential. Professionally, he is a consultant but that’s just the fancy name for it.
The Market
Now, let’s say you have a passion for helping people in their marriage relationships (like yours truly). You have to go to the online market and find out what people who are married are buying. Are they buying self help books, resources in marriage enrichment, avoid divorce, catch a cheating spouse software, rebuilding trust after an affari and other such resources? That indicates that there is a hungry market willing to pay to have their marriage work better.
That is good news that you are in a good market. I find that it is better to go for markets that are “evergreen”. Sure you can capitalize on markets that are seasonal and you can cash in on them but the evergreen ones make for good passive income.
The Offer
You have to find out what offers or solutions that the market is buying. You can become an affiliate of highly rated, well paying products which you can promote. If there are no offers, you can provide one. An ebook is relatively easier to publish online compared to publishing a book offline. Trust me, I have written three ebooks in one niche and I am amazed with how people found them helpful. So if you don’t believe in yourself, don’t worry, I believe in you.
The Marketing
This is where people trip up in starting an online business from home. There are a lot of reasons ranging from technological challenges to information overload. This is why I recommend that you should run an online business in something you are passionate about because I recommend blogging as an online business. If your blog posts are well optimized (and I know how to do that), you will constantly setting up pages of information which you are knowledgeable about but also helpful for people. And a good number of those people will be buying what you have offered them as solutions.
Now I know that technologically, setting up a blog is a big challenge for a lot of people. You could pay for a blog set up service but marketing your blog is a whole lot of work that you really do not want to get bogged down with when starting your business. You will eventually have to start your own blog or site, but it just makes good business sense to ride on the back of an already established, high ranking blog to start things off.
The Schedule
The majority of people who want to start and online or any other kind of business from home trip up here: scheduling. There are conflicts when it comes to business run from home. Family interruptions, taxation gray areas, time management gray areas and all sorts of things. I have developed a schedule that helps me to balance and optimize my work. The more you work on it, the better you become.
Now, if you have all these things in check, I would safely say you are ready to start your own online business from home. I won’t kid you that there are disadvantages but the rewards are also great…and do not make any excuses about this. You know the reasons you want to start this business.
