Being Flexible – the 4th Key
This post is part six Key 4: Being Flexible in a series on 5 Keys to Magical Selling. Part 1 is A Better Way , Part 2 is Short Stories that are Magical, Part 3 is Video Storytelling: How I Turned My Life Upside Down, Part 4 is An Unbelievable Story – How We Met Our Daughter after 20 Years and Part 5 is Positive Thoughts.
What does it mean to be flexible? Letting go and being OK with whatever happens, regardless of whatever your goals are.
Too many people get too attached to their goals, so much that it creates problems for them.
Things do not always happen in the exact way that you expect them to. When you set an intention out there for something to happen, it’s a lot better to set a clear way that this can happen but then when you set the goal, it is better to be flexible and to say something along the lines of “I see this happening like this or in a way that’s even better, that I could never have predicted.”
It’s better to just let go of an exact specific way of something happening. The reason why you want to let go is because almost nothing great ever, ever will happen the way you think it will happen. It just won’t.
The best marriages in the world have issues, OK? I have issues in my marriage, even though we’ve been together for 25 years. You work through the issues.
You might have some sort of way you want to do something and the way you want to do it needs to be tweaked a little bit more, so if you’re so hard core and not at all flexible in doing it a particular way, it might not work at all!
David Wood gives an example of his 3 and a half years experience when he first started in MLM with Amway in 2002. His upline trained him to wander around prospecting people he met, mainly in stores. Never in that time did he ever question that it would work. Even after it never worked for him, ever.
He did it for more than 3 years and got no results from it. He was not willing at the time to ask more people about whether wandering around prospecting people in shops really worked. If he had, he could have been much more flexible and tried different strategies. He was so fixed and focused on getting it done in the exact way he had been told, he was not willing to budge and had no flexibility at all.
This is why in the Empower Network, we have the 8 Core Commitments, which give everybody a framework that they can work within together but they are loose enough and flexible enough to allow you to market the way YOU want to market.
If someone tries to force you in to a box, under one way of doing things, telling you this is the only way of doing things, you are not going to unleash your creative energy, are you? And your creative energy is what Empower Network needs.
It’s your energy that you put out there in the universe to do things in a different and unique way. You gotta be willing to be flexible and change when things don’t go your way. You can be that way by being detached from outcomes.
The greatest example of this principle in action is the invention of the light bulb by Thomas Edison. He tested thousands of filaments for light bulbs, each slightly different from the preceding one, and each one a failure, until he hit on one design that worked.
Edison actually said that the designs that didn’t work weren’t failures, just thousands of ways to NOT make a light bulb.
Be Flexible when blogging
When you start blogging, you’re not going to succeed in a month, not several months, you have to keep tweaking and go through some struggle and failure before you succeed but the clarity of your intentions and your willingness to have flexibility and to adapt is going to get you to where you want to go.
You have to realise that things that don’t work aren’t failures, they are feedback. We need to go through such experiences in order to learn. Take them as feedback and keep adjusting your actions, keep moving forward and keep making adjustments, you will get what you want in your life – period.
