In today’s world, to succeed in any endeavor, you need to have innovative ideas. More important, you need to be able to present your ideas effectively. An idea which is not presented effectively to people who matter is not of much use.
How to present your ideas effectively? It is not enough to just state your ideas. You need to be passionate and persuasive while presenting your ideas. Then you will be able to convince the individual or people with whom you are communicating.
It is a common knowledge that if you want to sell to a committee, you need to satisfy all its members. There is a committee in your listener’s brain. The left brain and the right brain are the members of this committee.
The left brain is interested in facts and figures. It responds to details, logic and order. Right brain seeks creativity. It responds to the big picture, color, music, emotions and images.
If you want to succeed with your presentation, you need to satisfy both the members of the committee in the brains of each and every listener. Otherwise, you are likely to fail.
It has been observed that usually emotion trumps logic while people make their decisions. We have heard people saying things like “I known I cannot afford a kitten, but look how cute it is.” And they end up buying the kitten.
It is important to include images in your presentation. Images evoke emotions. It is easy to grasp images than lengthy texts. It is easy to win over a hostile audience with imagery.
Making smart use of images, you can communicate a concept effectively. Imagery helps you to anchor your message. People have closed many deals with the help of effective images. Great images inspire action from your audience.
While running a presentation, it is important to avoid irrelevant humor during the opening. Instead use anecdotes, current events, a prop or a startling event in your presentation.
During many of our interactions, we are asked to what to “do.” Presentations with instructions telling people what to do will be dull. Your listeners’ right brain will not appreciate such presentation.
While you present intangibles, talk the bullet points of your information, but show an actual image representing the concept behind the facts. If it is really impossible to show the images, use verbal metaphors or analogies to communicate your message.
Experts are of the opinion that people remember the last thing they hear. It is as per the rule of recency. It is important to end your presentation with a visual tie-in. If you do so, you will be able to inspire action from your listeners.
An effective presentation should contain images in the form of metaphors, analogies and stories. These are immensely powerful weapon of mass understanding and retention. Use these in abundance in your presentation.
Creating and delivering an effective presentation is a cakewalk if you implement the above-mentioned tips.
