Facebook for business: The do’s and don’ts of Facebook promotions

With more than one billion users, Facebook is an immensely popular social media website. Many businesses are using Facebook to promote their products and services.

It is a great platform to promote your business because according to a survey, around 40 percent of Facebook users look forward to discounts and promotions on the social media website.

Some marketers find it difficult to run a contest on a Facebook page. It can be a little confusing and a little challenging. This is because Facebook terms are not clear. Care should be taken not to break any of the Facebook terms and conditions. This may result in removal of your account.

It is always advisable to step lightly. You need to administer all promotions, contests and sweepstakes through a 3rd party app. Do not use the Facebook platform itself, including the Events app, your Facebook wall, Groups or for that matter any Facebook functionality to run your promotion.

It is important to include a complete Facebook release and an acknowledgement that the promotion is not sponsored by, administered by, endorsed by or associated with Facebook.

The rules of the contest should be visible on the application page. You may have the users like your Page, check into a place or connect to your app before joining your promotion. But the promotion should be administered through a 3rd party app.

You may add images or videos related to your promotion or contest. But you should not do it directly on Facebook for Business. You should use a third party application for the purpose.

You are allowed to collect names and emails from entrants. This helps you to contact the winners at a later stage. You are not allowed to contact the winners through Facebook. Do not ever try contacting the winner through chat or their wall.

You cannot choose a fan for random draw as this involves the use of Facebook to collect the entries. You need to perform the function through a 3rd party application.

Facebook’s rules do not allow you to use its like, share, comment, photo/video tab as a voting mechanism or registration mechanism for a promotion. Many people have had their account shut down by doing so.

You are allowed to promote your contest on your Facebook page. But it should be limited to posting a link on your page to the contest. Your promotion should be in line with the laws of the land.

Tabsite, Strutta, NorthSocial, Wildfire, Faceitpages, Votigo, Appbistro, FanPageEngine, Woobox and Startstack are some good apps that help you to run promotions on Facebook. These are popular among successful internet marketers.

It is advisable to follow the above-mentioned guidelines while using Facebook For Business or to promote your product or service. If done correctly, running promotions on Facebook is a great way to gain fans and to increase your fans, thereby enhancing your business’ social presence and overall online presence.
