Too many blogs have engaging content, but lack when it comes to easy readability.
Great post are created, but as soon as you see the post, you can’t read it because it’s so dense.
The Internet has made us very A.D.D.
We don’t have time to read.
And the people that have time to read aren’t really reading the informative posts. They’re reading stories, and other engaging content.
So in order to master creating engaging content for easy readability, follow the guidelines below to keep eyeballs scrolling down the page till the last word.
10 Ways to Create Engaging Content With Easy Readability
1. Avoid long paragraphs.
Dense paragraphs never make me want to read anything.
Break up your paragraphs into smaller blocks of text, which will let the reader absorb more of what you’re saying.
2. Avoid long sentences.
At the same time, for even easier readability, avoid long, drawn-out sentences that go on for days and have no point other than to pontificate.
Engaging content does not have to be for Harvard graduates. In fact, writing in simpler terms is much much better.
Write as if you were writing for a seventh grader. To test your easy readability score, use this tool that will grade your writing.
4. Use more subheads.
Subheads are great because they allow your readers to go to exactly what they’re looking for.
Use h1, h2, and h3 tags to divide your engaging content into manageable sections that your readers can digest.
5. Create an outline for engaging content.
The subheads allows you, the writer to create a sort of outline for the reader to scroll down the page to. A great way to create engaging content is to write your main ideas in subheads and fill in the gaps with details.
If your reader wants to know more about what’s below the subhead, they will immediately go to that section and digest.
5. Get to the point.
Don’t ramble…please. It’s not very good for engaging content.
Always tell your readers what to do next.
In fact, readers like to be told what to do next (you cheeky monkey!).
So give assignments towards the end of your blogs to guide the readers to another area.
8. Have an opinion.
Don’t be afraid to state your case. It’s your blog.
9. Have fun.
Blogging is a blast. Have fun and be yourself. You’ll be more authentic that way.
Your readers will thank you for creating engaging content with easy readability. They might even come back. I study great writers and imitate what they do.
And I find the best writers just seem to have a flow to their writing that’s easy to digest and fun to read. Imitate that style to gain a loyal readership.
Keep blogging,
