will be open soon but only for the 2012 London Olympic Games.
2,000 people will be working at the world’s largest McDonald’s and it will seat up to 1,500 diners. Wow, that’s a lot of big Mac’s and of course the restaurant is super sized. they claim that’s it’s made of recycled building materials and here’s the story from blippitt.com
Brace yourselves! The world’s LARGEST McDonald’s will open its doors for six weeks only during the 2012 London Olympic games.
This place gives new meaning to the word BIG. The restaurant covers 32,292 square feet and is equivalent to about half the length of a standard football field.
The world’s largest McDonald’s will be staffed by 2,000 people, who are estimated to serve more than 50,000 Big Macs and 180,000 servings of French fries. There will be enough seating for 1,500 people at a time.
For the ninth straight year, McDonald’s will be a top-level sponsor at the Olympics and will be the only branded food in the Olympic Park and Athlete’s Village.
This McDonald’s will be built out of recyclable materials and will feature a large-scale promotion aimed at making children healthier.
The fitness push is McDonald’s way of responding to criticism of the chain’s position as an Olympic sponsor, given all the recent studies linking fast food to childhood obesity.
The new worldwide fitness campaign will see “activity toys” included in all Happy Meals. The toys will measure how many steps or jumps the user takes in a single day and encourages the child to play online Olympic-inspired games.
Later, McDonald’s will also be handing out free vouchers for sports sessions.
McDonald’s Global Chief Brand Officer, Kevin Newell, says, “Most people when they talk about children’s well-being, they go immediately to the food, but…it’s also about education and activity – and the Olympics will set us up very nicely to launch a few things around children’s well-being.”

Currently the world’s largest McDonald’s is in Orlando, Florida, so this one will lose that distinction temporarily while the London Olympics are in session and then the Orlando McDonald’s will again be the World’s Largest McDonald’s.
