What is an Entrepreneur?
I found this amazing video with Joe Polish interviewing Sir Richard Branson- check it out.
Here’s just a few of the highlights as I took some notes form it:
According to Richard Branson an entrepreneur is someone who sets out to want to make a difference in other peoples lives.
An entrepreneur is not a manager, rather someone who has great ideas and is good at delegating the necessary tasks to bring that idea to reality.
On how to begin a marketing campaign:
- Is this product worth shouting about?
- Use yourself to get the word out.
- Don’t be afraid to make a fool of yourself.
- Get on the front page of newspapers and magazines.
On the spirit of fun:
The chairman of a company can rather than standing around sipping drinks on the patio with everyone, he can go in the pool for fun and everyone will follow him in.
You can get to know people better in fun situations rather than always being in the work
environment.
Common mistakes entrepreneurs make:
- 8 out of 10 businesses do go bust.
- Not protecting against the downside.
- Virgin Airlines is protected against the rising oil prices.
How to make tough decisions on a daily basis?
Make sure everything is running without you.
Having a fantastic team of people running things.
Keeping fit and healthy.
50% of Richards time is spent setting up non profits to benefit the world.
Always works from home rather than an office.
Originally in a houseboat. On holiday takes office to Necker Island.
Have fun and make sure people around you are having fun makes Richard unique.
You are only as good as the reputation you’ve built over many years.
Virgin Galactic will be Richards most proud accomplishment. Making space travel affordable for many people is the most exciting business.
The final 4 minutes of the video is devoted to showcasing Virgin Unite. Entrepreneurs and
people unite to tackle social problems around the world.
Thank you Sir Richard for making this video available for the masses.
