Dealing With Aging

Restored from the Empower Network archive (2011–2017), lightly edited to meet our current advertising standards. Views are the original author’s.

You think you’re old? Do you look at older people and say ‘that’ll never happen to Me.’

Listen up my friend. As sure as the sun rises and sets every day, you and I will get older. This isn’t a bad thing. It’s all a natural progression of our journey through life.

Aging is not something to be feared. Instead aging should be celebrated. Whether you are 20 or 120, life goes on as it always has.

I think the key distinction here is your quality of life as you age. There is really no reason for you not taking as much control in your own aging process as possible.

A while back I wrote a post on aging. As a follow up to I’ve included a link to an extended version of the trailer on aging.  Check it out and let me know your thoughts on aging.

Aging Gracefully

Eating right, according to your own tastes and preferences, provided you’re not eating processed or fast food every day. A little deviation once in a while to treat yourself won’t kill you, or even speed up the aging process.

If you eat or don’t eat you will still get a little older each day.

Exercise is vital to you enjoying your aging body. I’m not talking about becoming a gym-rat 7 days a week. What you should do is walk an hour a day if you can.

Something you will find is pretty easy to do and will produce results throughout your life is body weight exercises. Remember when you were a kid in school? Your gym teacher was always harping about doing calisthenics, and he was right.

These simple movements keep your aging muscles and joints toned and flexible. You need strong abs, glutes (your butt) and a strong core front to back. This is a combination of your lower back, stomach, butt and your powerful thigh muscles.

Moving! You gotta keep moving. As we age our tendency is to move less. Wrong!

You need to get up and move around during your day. Even walking across your room will get things going. Doing some light stretching during commercials when watching TV, or taking a break from whatever work you’re doing, especially on your computer will go a long way towards keeping you supple.

Your Aging Brain

Let’s not forget about your brain. Your brain, the most remarkable and powerful computing device ever made also ages as you do.

The trick here is keep your brain active. Just like your body, your aging brain wants to stay young too.

Keep your brain constantly stimulated by truing new things. Read and write and create. that’s the simple secret to having a sharp mind in your 80′s, 90′s and beyond.

Don’t be afraid to learn a new skill, sing a new song or dance a new dance. Your brain will love you for it. And you will love your brain.

If you will just do these four things, eat right,  feed your brain, light exercise and keep moving you will successfully slow down the aging process.

Enjoy your long and healthy life and remember to leave your thoughts and opinions. I love hearing from you.
