WordPress is basically the Coca-Cola of blogging platforms.  It has been around forever, it is dependable, it is customizable, and it is pretty easy to use.  There are 2 versions of WordPress that bloggers can choose from – a free, hosted blog at WordPress.com or blog software that can be downloaded and hosted on other platforms.  For the novice, the WordPress.com site is fast, easy, and gives you all you really need to create a nice looking, fully functional blog…

The more technically savvy blogger may opt for a WordPress.org blog because they can get more advanced options and features, more plug-ins and gadgets, and host the blog on their own server if they so desire.  Either way, WordPress is a universally accepted blogging platform and it’s hard to go wrong with a WordPress blog…

Blogger is the blogging platform provided by Google.  It is a free, hosted blog like WordPress.com and is also very easy to start and manage.  Blogger does not offer as many options or provide as much flexibility for customization, so you may be limited in what you can do with your blog.  The bottom line with Blogger is that it’s fast and simple to set up, it’s so easy to use that your grandmother could do it, and it’s free…

Tumblr has become a popular platform in the micro-blogging arena, which basically means shorter, targeted, and more frequent posts than a typical blog.  Think of it like Twitter without the 140 word barrier…  Tumblr is a a good choice for anyone who likes to share tons of pictures and stories or write a lot of short blog posts (extended status updates, really) without the effort of maintaining a blog of their own…  It’s where to blog when you aren’t really blogging…  Even if you have a blog, Tumblr could be a good tool for you to use to promote your other blog on the internet and through social media…
