Morning Glory Movie – Turn Your Business Around
If ever there was a movie that entertained yet shared a priceless lesson on the cost of success, this is it.
In the Morning Glory Movie, despite all odds Rachel Adams’s character Becky Fuller is able to dramatically transform the ratings of a TV morning show that is facing cancellation…. even thought the whole world seems to have given up on the show and all the while battling her own demons as a talented yet workaholic TV producer.
Morning Glory Movie – Business Success Lesson #1: Grit, determination and passion rule
Heard the phrase “More heart than talent” ? Rachel Adams’s character Becky Fuller in Morning Glory certainly does not have the perfect resume when it comes to her morning show production career, yet she more than makes up for her lack of credentials by eating, drinking and sleeping her job and putting in a tremendous of amount of heart! Nay, she thrives by using 200% grit and determination and saves the show by pulling off a Herculean effort in creativity and resourcefulness. Yet sometimes all the potential and creativity in the world are not enough. She’s actually pretty talented, yes, and she uses her wisdom and limited experience to make some hugely bold moves in order to save the show.
Still, the #1 lesson I took from this movie is that grit and determination are often the difference maker when it comes to conquering what seems like the impossible. All too often in business a good idea will be beaten by an inferior one because of the level of conviction – people can sense it. The simple answer is to get focused and passionate about what you’re shooting for and give it 200%.
Morning Glory Movie – Business Success Lesson #2: Take risks and don’t take it too seriously
“You have 6 days to turn the ratings around or the show’s going to be canceled” – Rachel Adam’s character Becky Fuller has just 6 days to save her show “Daybreak.” To achieve it she knows in her gut she has to pull out all the stops but also shake things up. Such a dramatic turnaround is not going to happen by simply tweaking the format… Within hours she takes “thinking outside the box” to a crazy level in ramping up the entertainment factor – she even has the weatherman doing stunts and live shoots have viewers on the edge of their seats. Then there’s the live squabbling between the two main anchors, brilliantly played by Diane Keaton and Harrison Ford (his best return to entertaining cynicism since Star Wars)…
Does she pull it off and save the show? You’ll have to watch it to find out !
But one lesson you can take away is that dramatic results and business transformation is never created by playing small and safe… Becky Fuller puts her job and the livelihoods of her entire TV crew on the line … you can probably think of a few examples right now of companies or people you know who do things differently and “knock it out of the park” in business and life.
Morning Glory Movie – Watch it!
Hope you enjoyed this article – now go watch the movie for a lot of belly laughs but also some great insights into business success, keeping a balance between work and play, and for a reminder that to win and win big in business but also in life, sometimes you have to do what may at first feel uncomfortable and even draw a few mad looks from people who love and care about you!
