Yeah, that was the name of the very first Empower Network Event!! Hard to believe until you meet David Wood and David Sharpe, the two maverick founders of the Empower Network (see my bizarrely titled article on how I first met Dave Wood here). (By the way, here’s my full Empower Network review)
But it’s true.. they really did name their very first event “Don’t Be A Wussy”!
Now, going through customs as I did coming from Canada, I was a little concerned I’d actually have to tell the customs officer the crazy ass name of this event too! (Weeks earlier I’d been asked by a customs officer for the name of another marketing event I was attending lol).
Anyway, let’s get back on track here – this is my very first Empower Network event review – my first review of the first event. Hopefully this Empower Network event review will reveal to you a little more of what goes on at these events if you missed it (we had to sign a non-disclosure agreement to enter the room so not all secrets will be shared…) and..
..help you decide if you want to fight the forces of evil (“Fight the Forces of Evil 2012″ is actually the name of the next Empower Network event at the end of September lol which I’ll review next time around!).
Empower Network Event Review – The Surprise that was waiting for me on arrival..
Wow. I had arrived in a rush (and even a little late) after our airport shuttle got stuck in traffic and rushed up to the registration desk outside the event room after dropping my small suitcase and relieving my bodyguard of his duties (just kidding, but wait until you hear about the “real bodyguards” at the event further below..!).
I could barely make myself heard – myself and dozens of others were queueing up to register and hand in our NDA (non-disclosure agreements) in poorly formed queues, waiting impatiently to get in on the action at the very first Empower Network event. Reviewing my signed form, the registration clerk, a warm girl named Stephanie, ushered me on, and I finally entered the lions den!!
Boom! What a noise!

Apparently 1200+ strong (and more on the Saturday), the crowd were on their feet as I entered the room, not for me, at least not this time lol (!), but with heads turned toward the stage, they were enthusiastically chanting “Don’t Be a Wussy” – David Sharpe’s dream had been to be in a crowd full of people shouting those hilarious words at an Empower Network live event.
The atmosphere was electric! I’d never been to a marketing event 1200 strong and the people were a special breed – from all walks of life, of all ages, and from all parts of the world – even as far as Hong Kong, Australia, and Ireland! As good as the talks at the event were, it was the amazing people all united in cause, that made the Empower Network live event so special. What energy!
Empower Network Event Review – Should You Go to the Next One?
Clearly I didn’t just go to the event to write this “Empower Network event review” – I’m not some paid journalist lol.. so I genuinely went because I expected it to make a difference in my life and business. Was I disappointed? Overall, it was hands down the most eye-opening event of all events I’ve been to over the last 2 years. More on that in a second, but first let me just confess that I was a little disappointed. Only a little.. and only at first. Look, I want to give you the true lowdown with a balanced Empower Network event review here..
You see, to be honest, I was expecting a nuts and bolts strategy session at some point during the Empower network live event and I had to wait until Sunday to hear two presentations which fell squarely into the “How to” category. And these were powerful.. and honestly worth many times what my investment was to attend (including flight and hotel).
..But I soon realized that by focusing on the How to I was largely missing the point.
Let me explain…
What’s the biggest difference between those who succeed and fail…?
Is it really a lack of knowledge? but the reality is that very few people actually take consistent action..
So are you totally committed to success? Easy to say “Yes” right? But what does it mean and take? To me being committed means pushing forward hard and smart until success is achieved, no matter what.
But where does commitment come from? Having something really clear to shoot for is big, but for many in the complicated online marketing world where so many new skills must be learned, it’s BELIEF…
Belief that it’s possible to succeed.
Belief that by devoting the many hours required to your Empower Network business, that you too will have financial success.
Belief that you are enough, just as you are, and that ordinary people like you and I really are getting results.
THAT is what was so special about this event. EVERY single person in the room witnessed what I’m sharing with you in the video below!!
Proof that a lot, and I mean over 90% of the room had made some money with the Empower Network.
So I’ll end this Empower Network event review now with proof that the Empower Network is more than just a business opportunity and a great suite of online success products, but also a movement!
