Fathers day
I would like to take time out today, to honor my father, on fathers day. My dad had fourgirls, a wife, and a female dog that was his family. A big guy, nothing ever intimidated my father, except his daughters tears. I remember my father asking us when he had to go to the store, “who needs cigars?” Cigars was his code word for tampons. Can you imagine, my dad would go to the store and buy our tampons!
My father was big on buying bulk and super size. When I went to college, he bought me a huge shower bucket to put a large bottle of listerine and other supplies. This bottle of listerine could have lasted two-three years for one person!
One things my father, was he was not a quitter! He took all his daughters to the zoo, with the main event being the porpoise show. We were not able to get in that day, so our dad took us back two more times, until we were able to see the show.
He was a big believer in education. He always said they can’t take education away from you. He planned for everyone of us to go to college. I know I was a better student in school, because my dad expected it of me.
We received an allowance every two weeks of two dollars. My dad would give us two dollars and take the old two dollars and put it in our bank account. I remember when I had lost some money when I was shopping with my friends. I was so upset that I was crying hard. My dad just held me while I cried, and didn’t make fun of me.
As a family, we would all watch movies on TV. If their was a sad movie, we would have tears in our eyes, and my dad would tease us out of our tears. It was the best to go grocery shopping with our father! We could get anything we wanted; where my mom would say no to just about any suggestions, if you went shopping with her.
So, everyone has a great story or two about their dad on this fathers day. Remember dads play a significant role in a child’s life. My dad died at the young age of 74, and it was a very sad period in my life. I had two small children of my own; and whenever my husband was home, I craved alone time. It was a quiet contemplative time in my life; for I loved my dad. So on thisfathers day, remember your dad, through memories and good thoughts, or spend some time with him and treasure him.
