New pupppy
A new puppy in your home is a big change! Prepare for a whirlwind of energy What is that old superman saying, oh yes, faster than a speeding bullet! You need to bring your A game. A puppy needs a lot of attention, something to chew on, and play time.
With all of the above, you will have to crate train your puppy! I knew you feel cruel putting this adorable puppy in what you view as a prison. Trust me, it is the best thing you can do for your puppy, while you are away. The puppy feels safe, and the crate keeps him out of trouble! A friend of my mother always tells this story about their german shepard puppy, who was not crated. She came home to her piano leg bitten down to a stick size! So a crate makes your puppy feel safe and actually keeps him safe from chewing harmful things!
When your puppy gets out of the chewing stage, and that will take a while, then you can start taking him out of the crate, when you are running short errands, and see how he does. My puppy is 11 months old, and I still keep him in the crate; he loves chewing!
Speaking of chewing, I give my puppy bones. I buy soup bones, boil them and clean them off before giving one to my liitle guy. My puppy loves bones, and soup bones take a longer time to break down, and does not cause diarrhea, like some of the bones you buy from the pet store.. They cause diarrhea because the puppy can chew the bone within an hour, and still has the need to chew. If you keep giving him more bones, it will give him loose stools. The pet store also recommended deer antlers. Dogs love them, and they take forever to be chewed down. They are expensive.
Giving your puppy attention can be very time demanding. If you are part of a family, you may want to get the kids involved with playtime! I have bought several balls. My puppy loves to run and chase the balls and bring them back to me! My little guy is a jumper, so I am going to purchse a frisbee and see how he does! Your puppy loves to play, so that is a job that needs to be divided amongst the family!
Your new dog loves attention and the sound of your voice, so talk and pet your dog often. Another way to pay attention to your new dog is to take him out for walks. Not only does that help potty train him, but it helps get rid of some of that energy. You can also use this time to train you dog to walk to the left side of your leg and stay by you side.!
You new puppy is a bundle of energy that needs your attention and time! If you do not have the time to give, do not get the puppy, it is unfair to him. If you have a family and you want to get a new puppy, you need to sit down with each member and explain the commitment level it will take for everyone.
