PROSPERITY TIP: How NOT to be Broke…
Restored from the Empower Network archive (2011–2017), lightly edited to meet our current advertising standards. Views are the original author’s.
Years ago, I heard one of my favorite authors say,
“Don’t talk about your health unless you’re talking to your doctor.”
His point was that there’s no need in discussing problems with someone unless you’re pursuing a solution.
The same applies to our financial health.
One of the most powerful decisions I made on my journey from “broke” to “wealthy” was when someone suggested that I…
STOP talking about being broke.

I didn’t realize how often I did it. Because I wasn’t actually saying, “Here’s how broke I am…..”
Instead, I was doing it in sneaky little unconscious ways.
I’d say things like,
“Oh, I’d love to go out to eat Friday but we’re watching our spending.”
What the…??? Why not just say
“We can’t come Friday. But thank you for the invitation”?
No, instead, I had to make sure that everyone knew that my reason for not attending was money.
Or, someone would say, “Man, have you heard that new CD?” or “Have you seen the new _____ movie?”
And I’d say something like,
“No, I’ve been strapped for cash lately and haven’t bought a CD in weeks…”
Or,
“No, I’ve been running low on cash since getting laid off so I haven’t been to the theater in awhile.”
GOOD LORD!!!
I feel nauseous just writing this down.
Why? Because it’s what some people call “poor mouth”:
they can’t talk without talking about how poor they are.
HERE’S the “PROSPERITY TIP”
Hey, if you’re struggling with money, that’s one thing.
But TALKING about it is something else that’s entirely unnecessary.
When I “got” this… AND I started deliberately changing my language…
…things started changing around me.
And I don’t mean that in a woo-woo kind of way.
Nothing mystical was happening.
But here’s why it worked…
You can’t talk about how broke you are all the time without it affecting how you think.
And ALL your powerful decisions will come from “how you think”.
So if you’re in the habit of constantly talking like a broke person….
….then you’ll always THINK like a broke person.
And if you’re THINKING like a broke person….
…you’re not going to do the powerful things that David Wood or Tony Rush or Tracey Walker or Melissa Barnes Knecht or Jessica Donaldson Rush or Kevin Knecht are doing…
Try this instead!
Read this again to make sure you’re clear on it.
I’m not talking about whether you’re broke or not.
I’m talking about how you TALK and the WORDS THAT YOU SAY.
I’m not asking anyone to “fake it til you make it”.
I’m simply saying that — if someone is struggling with finances –
then one of most powerful things they can do is to STOP TALKING ABOUT IT.
One last bonus lesson:
You cannot think and talk like a broke person in casual conversations…
…and then sit down and write a powerful email to your list that makes them want to buy something.
Cannot be done.
So, if you’re broke and you want to get MORE impact out of your broadcasts and your blogs… Stop being two-faced.
Stop poor-mouthing in your casual conversations and pretending to be a leader in other conversations.
Be consistent. Just BE the leader in ALL your conversations.
If you do that, you’ll find that everything in your business AND Your Lifestyle starts clicking.
I’m sure this is helpful…
You can thank me later
