Take Your Site To The Next Level With These Search Engine Optimization Tips

Search engine optimization has been mystified for as long as it’s around, and this is why we decided to shed some light to the matter and give you some tips you can use to boost your efforts.
Editorial links are big in the SEO world currently. There are many ways you can get them, one great source are non-profit sites. It is not easy getting a link for a non-profit organization website, but if you provide them with some useful content or unique research, they will be happy to link back to you.
When it comes to on-page search engine optimization, you must be careful. For example, if you are using Flash, most search engine spiders can’t crawl it, so make sure you give them some “crawlable” content, otherwise you might end up in the gutter.
Search Engine Optimization For Individual Pages
When going after certain keywords, make sure you are targeting one major keyword per page. You can certainly insert some long-tail ones, but they must be related to the main one. Don’t try to target something like “blue widgets” and “dog training” on a single page, that simply won’t work.
When creating your website and doing search engine optimization, you need to make sure your users are happy. Make sure you adapt the navigation, text, and elements on the page according to their liking, and Google will reward you for it (or so they say at least).
If you are using your site to review various products, make sure you provide something of value in the text you are writing. Don’t just copy-paste product info you find on Amazon, for example.
Also, you need to make sure all the sections of your website are different, having different titles, meta tags, H tags etc. Even if you are targeting similar keywords, it is never a good idea to have a few versions of the same page on your website.
When doing search engine optimization, the most important thing you can do for yourself is to arm yourself with patience. SEO is not something that happens over night. Often, you will have to wait for weeks and even months to see the changes. You must work on it constantly, day after day, and build your website gradually.
When doing on-page optimization, I already stated you should only target one main keyword per page. When trying to decide what keyword you should go for, always make sure you check two most important factors – search volume and competition.
I usually go for the keywords that have 1000 or more exact, local searches a month. As for the competition, you can download the latest version of Market Samurai (there is a 7-day trial I believe) and scan through the first 10 results. If there is at least a few pages with low number of backlinks and low page rank, you might have a chance (depending on the work you input).
Another thing when it comes to search engine optimization, is to use all the mediums available to you. So, for example, you can create some videos and upload to Youtube or Metacafe, create podcasts, write articles for others etc.
By the way, when creating your website, don’t forget to include a sitemap. A sitemap “tells” googlebot all there is to know about your website and will enable all the pages to be crawled.
Including an RSS feed is a great way to let your visitors know about the new content you are pumping out on a regular basis and it can also help with your search engine optimization. Make sure you place a visible RSS subscribe button and include call-to-action; tell people to subscribe if they want new information.
Another great way to get people to read your new content, is to get them to subscribe to your list. If you offer them something of value, free of charge in exchange for their email address, most of them will agree to this and allow you to send them emails from time to time. Don’t span them, make sure you provide value in each emails you send!
Picking Good Domains For Search Engine Optimization
Picking a good domain name can be crucial, not only for the benefits of search engine optimization, but also to create a brand and some recognition. So, choose wisely!
Never try to manipulate search engines into ranking you. There are many people out there, doing something called “blackhat SEO,” basically tricking search engines into ranking them. But these rankings don’t last for very long.
If you want stable, long-term rankings, you need to take it easy, and do everything gradually. Realize that SEO is more of a lifestyle, you need to work constantly on improving it through the whole “life” of your website and never stop improving it. This is the only way you will make progress and be successful.
It also helps to try and get in the mindset of your visitors. Try to figure out what they would like to read/see on your website and give them just that. If you give them what they need, bright future awaits you.
