Grading your own skills is the exercise most career advice skips, and this blog gives it a whole instalment. List what you can do, then mark each one A, B or C depending on how many stories of success you can actually tell about it. Three stories makes it an A. That is a harder test than a list of adjectives and a considerably more useful one.

The career series runs across several parts and expects you to have done the homework from the previous one, which is unusual and worth respecting.

A guest piece begins with a garter snake escaping a lawn mower and turns into a reflection on fear following a mass shooting nearby. A friend wrote it, and it is the most affecting thing here.

There is a report on house prices turning after years of decline, written with the figures rather than the mood, and a piece on detention and the rule of law.

Take the career series from the first part. Part six makes no sense on its own.
