If you’re familiar with British children’s TV you will no doubt be very aware of Bob the Builder.
He is a well known children’s character who is builder surronded by talking tools and vehicles.
But it struck me as my children were watching the programme one morning that there is one character in Bob the builder‘s team who always casts a shadow of doubt as to whether they can actually achieve what they have set out to achieve.
What Bob The Builder Taught Me About Life
As I thought about that character I thought about my kids and the message that this little crane character was inputting into them.
As everybody shouts, ‘YES WE CAN’ the little crane character replies by saying, “Oh yes, I think so!”
That bugged me because I don’t want my kids to ever have doubt that they can achieve something in life.
Saying, “I think I can do something” is not the same as saying “I know I can!”
As I watched that episode of Bob The Builder, I knew I had to reinforce the belief in my kids, that the crane was not to be copied. The message is “Yes We Can” not “Oh yes, I think so!”
If you are in a place where you think you can do it, you will not do it. You have to be in a place where you know you can do it.
Aaron Rashkin talks about the idea of those who say, “I’ll try my best” and those who say, “I’ll have a go”. Both will fail because neither have the belief or conviction to succeed.
However, the one who says, “I’ll do what it takes” is in a place where they have the conviction and the belief to make it happen.
Today, get rid of the voice in your mind that says, “I think so” and know that you can do what it is you setting out to do!
