Kindred Spirits Animatic – From Script To Animation

Restored from the Empower Network archive (2011–2017), lightly edited to meet our current advertising standards. Views are the original author’s.

When I first found GoAnimate, I thought it really wouldn’t help me. After watching other YouTube Videos and what other people have created using this site for the most part my reaction isn’t great. Don’t get me wrong there are good animations done with this site but others don’t see the full potential in it and just make stupid animations.

After spending one day with the Free version I was limited to just 10 lines and my animations weren’t that good. I created “Empower Network Animated Series” and created 15 clips or so that involved co-workers all getting interested in Empower Network and creating a whole bunch of characters around it. I haven’t abandoned the project but am currently redeveloping all the first 15 clips because I upgraded and wanted to make it look the best I could. After I joined, I decided to try and animate a scene from my screenplay,Kindred Spirits and have got the best response so far.

What I like about turning my screenplay into an animatic is for the first time it gives someone an idea of what the story is like. The viewers would just see it as a clever clip of animation but when you put all them together it would form over a 2 hour movie.

So one of my next projects is seeing how many scenes from my script I can animate. It is a challenging task because I do have some sensitive scenes, special effects are involved to. The more I do the more people can see the story forming. So what I decided to do is create a blog that will be a series of animatics I created through GoAnimatic that will eventually tell the whole story. I don’t care how long it takes but I will visual show you how the story will look. I am also going to include the music I want to use for the film. One artist’s music, I want to be heard throughout the film. Because whenever this film goes into Production. It will be my first film, I will also be using other peoples talents like the music which will make everything better, I think. So please keep coming back to this blog and you will see over time more clips that will eventually puzzle the whole film together in a Animatic.

Kindred Spirits

After roughly saying goodbye to his life and people in California,Daniel moves to California with his family. He finds this new life isn’t was it appears to be as personal matters keep coming up regarding Daniel’s family. He meets a new love interest who shortly after that disappears but the more his looks into her disappearance the more will change Daniel’s life forever.

Kindred Spirits Animatic -Scenes 7 – 10 – Daniel hard goodbye to Bethany

Kindred Spirits – Scene 7 -10 – Animatic by Paul Holloway

It’s Daniel last day with Bethany before he moves to New Mexico. It doesn’t go well for either of them.

Kindred Spirits Animatic -Scene 19 – Daniel’s Interview

Kindred Spirits – Scene 19 – Animatic by Paul Holloway

Daniel has his interview and meets Victoria for the first time.

Notes: This scene, you will see again in Act III. It will be told in a different point of view. I could easily save this into another animation and have the alternative scene tomorrow but I don’t want to do it because it would spoil the “suprises” I have in store for you later when I post the other clips.

Kindred Spirits Animatic – Scene 21 – Daniel gets to know Victoria better;First encounter with Stephen

Kindred Spirits – Scene 21 – Animatic by Paul Holloway

Notes: This was one of my favorite scenes to write because like the Interview clip this will also be another clip we revisit in Act III told in a different perspective. Putting that clips online would spoil everything. I am not going to do that. Yet. This exact scene in the script takes places outside where Daniel just had his interview. He meets up with Victoria as he waits for his ride home. We meet Stephen for the first time which he has more of a interesting storyline as we get more into his character.

Kindred Spirits Animatic – Scene 21 – Daniel has an awkward ride home

Kindred Spirits Animatic – Scene 22 by Paul Holloway

Daniel on his way home has a uncomfortable conversation when learning more about Stephen.

Note: The scripted version takes place in Stephen’s car. Since animating that scene would of been harder to find a inside of a car interior. I added that they took the subway and Stephen had car trouble. The first minute was not in the script but added for the sake of this animation. I think what I added in the beginning made it funnier.

Conclusion

I would love to hear your feedback. As I slowly post more clips it is like putting a puzzle together. If your someone that hasn’t read my script (hasn’t been many). I suppose I may get a few fans based on the animation alone. But below this blog is a place to leave a comment. Care to explain what you think the story is about and what you think will happen. More clips will be posted but I am going to spread it out. I am only focused on all of Act I scenes right now.

Also on a side note, creating these I enjoy because its closer to see it closer to Production and people will know what it is about. The overall animation I want to be in a good animation quality to where I can edit this in one animation in to a full animatic eventually. A few of the problems are is I only have about 5 characters and I need to custom create alot more character and also find more locations. So that does cost money.
