Make your videos viral

Get viral recognition!

If you search Google on YouTube on a regular basis you will be aware what the current crazes are at the moment, one video submitted on YouTube can be the key to instant fame if viewers are entertained by it as they will share, like or even replicate your content so it becomes viral. Take the Gangnam style and Harlem Shake crazes that have gone viral for example, if you do a search on any of them you will get thousands of results for each which gives a lot of recognition to the original creators.

Psy the creator of the Gangnam Style dance and song has been in the music industry since 2000 but until recently would have been known by very few people across the globe, like the song or not since it was posted on YouTube on July 15 2012 the video has had 1,490,951,807 views and 7,308,356 likes which shows you how powerful YouTube and viral recognition can be.

Not as popular as the Gangnam style dance but still very successful is Baauers Harlem Shake record which was a recent hit when people all around the world started performing their own versions of the songs dance moves, even Manchester City football club did their own adaptation. Since people viewers starting reposting videos Baaeurs original video has gone viral with 35,113,456 views and 228,002 likes in just 10 months.

So what is going to be the next viral hit? Will it be your video?

The latest craze is “The cup song” which is the art of using a plastic cup as an instrument and  singing a popular song to create a live lounge acapella style version of the original song, so you can see that any video can go viral it just needs to be what people want to see.

So how do you make a viral video?

To get a video to go viral you need people that have viewed it tell others about it and make them want to share it on their social media profiles so that their friend lists visit the page by simply clicking the link. To get people to share you content it needs to be:

Funny – Something that will make people laugh like the “Charlie bit me video”

Weird – You need to be careful how weird, try to create something that is different and something that your audience is not used to.

Current – Videos about current affairs are good as viewers want to be current themselves.

Cute – There are hundreds of cute animal compilations that have gone viral.

Crazy or Outrageous – Extreme sports videos, stunt videos etc are very popular as they shock the audience and have that WOW factor

Informative – Training videos, webinars, motivational speakers all can get viral fame as they provide knowledge and solve problems

When coming up with a video idea constantly ask yourself what is going to cause a reaction and what are people going to engage with.

It is not all about the content you need to make sure that when you post the video and repost it on other platforms it look professional and appealing, spend time creating good titles, sub headings and descriptions also select a video thumbnail that summarises the video and also attracts viewers.

Do your research and search for videos that have previously achieved viral success (watch Rude Tube if it is on the TV as it lists the top viral videos), most viral videos are short and snappy and are no longer than about 4 minutes long. If it is too long it is going to put people off watching it and sharing it with others, videos that only require a small amount of attention are affective.

Most people do not think about this next point but it is very important in making your video easily accessible, make sure that your video settings and account settings are set up properly your video needs to be viewable on mobile devices, social media platforms, and any other programmes your viewers use.

When people are asked about video sharing the first thing that usually pops into their heads is YouTube but there are various other video sharing sites out there that get as much traffic, using the following sites will help you achieve viral fame but make sure you link to other platforms your video is posted on in the description section:

– Vimeo

– Vevo

– Dailymotion

– Veoh

– Metacafe

– Break

– Flickr

– Yahoo Video

– Revver

– Blip.tv

Get accounts for all the above sites and post your video on each of them, what have you got to lose? Posting a video takes around 5 minutes depending on its size. If your videos are posted on all the above imagine how much more exposure you video will get and how much more likely you are going to be to become a viral success.
