How do you beat Google and get awesome targeted traffic? Are you new to internet marketing and struggling to make progress? Last night I sat in on an absolutely amazing webinar. There were a lot of top network marketing folk on hand to comment and share ideas but the star was Rob Fore who has made millions off of his several online businesses. Rob described how he makes money using his special marketing strategies. He described how he started out copying David Wood, Co-Founder and CEO of Empower Network. Initially Rob worked to beat SEO (Search Engine Optimization) and for a while his posts were consistently making it onto Google’s first page. It was a matter of searching out key words that would attract Google to his blog posts. But Google got smart and changed the rules. Their goal was to look for more value in the content of posts and for the relevance of the content with respect to the query. With the introduction of Panda and Penguin versions, SEO algorithms became increasingly sophisticated so that just sticking in keywords without writing interesting and useful content caused many marketers to lose traffic, literally overnight.
While this was frustrating for marketers, many of whom were slow to recover, Google was out to benefit its customers. Google aimed to do it by providing access to the best information available for their customers, the folks who were looking for answers on their computers. When this happened, Rob Fore lost about 40% of his traffic but was back up to 100% in about 30 days. How did he do it? He could have taken much more time just refining his SEO efforts and adding more content to his blogs. But he’d always had good content, so something different was needed. Keyword research was still important but other factors needed refining. Here’s what Rob suggests.
Before you even start a blog post, decide who you are writing to. What question does this person want answered? Who is the target that you want to visit your site?
- Someone who will engage with your article and click through to sign up? (Wants info from you about your product or a related product)
- Someone who will engage and opt in? (Can be lured to look at a product you offer)
- Someone who will engage and purchase? (Looking for your product)
Each of these folk will respond to a different approach. Who is your target for this blog post? What is he/she asking for? Your keyword search tells you how many people are regularly looking for particular information. But Rob points out that many more people than those that Google sees are searching on the internet and they’re looking in many different places. Where do you look for them and how do you drive targeted traffic to your site? No point in working with folks who are “just tire kicking”. That wastes your time (and theirs).
Your target isn’t looking for your site specifically so you have to stand out. You need an enticing headline; something to catch the eye. Use a picture or a video to help. No selling at this point because your target can land on your page and click out in a blink. Offer value, not a sales pitch. There are three ways to recruit this person:
• Educate them about the information they’ve requested
• Inform them so they can make a decision
• Engage them so they can trust you and buy your product
Your target may be serious about getting information but most people also want to find something interesting or amusing. You have about 6 seconds to convince your visitor to stay and see what you have to offer. Visitors know there are plenty other places to look, so your first paragraph must do the three things listed above. Look at my first paragraph and decide if I did all three things. Did you learn something new? Was it interesting? Would you like to hear more? I hope so and I hope you’ll want to CLICK HERE to see my next blog because I’ve just started to tell you about Rob Fore’s ideas for driving huge amounts of targeted traffic to your site!
