Funny Dog Videos

I have a couple of funny dog videos from YouTube  to share with you.  They each show the personality of the dog and, in this case, the bulldog stubborn persistence of this particular one.  I’m not sure what Tank’s breed is, but he’s a very dedicated fellow despite the taste of that root!

I grew up with dogs.  The first dog that arrived in my family was a mutt, part welsh terrier, and wire haired terrier.  He popped out of a basket on Christmas morning when I was 3 and he wore a big red ribbon that he kept tripping over.  He was my big brother Sargent’s dog.  Sarge named him Buster and when he went off to the Putney School in Vermont next September, Buster stayed with us and mourned his master’s disappearance.  Back then, it was customary for kids to mail laundry home and every three weeks a mailing box would arrive, chock full of horrendously smelly boy’s clothes.  We always allowed our ecstatic Buster to lie on the pile for an hour or so before laundering it.

My parents owned a wonderful old sea captains house near Sedgewick, Maine, about an hour’s drive southeast of Ellsworth.  The property bordered on the Benjamin River, a tidal estuary that dried out every low tide and thanks to the high latitude filled to about 5-6 feet at high tide.  My brother fell in love with boats and sailing and, no surprise, so did Buster.  I really can’t imagine how that dog managed to stay on board a Friendship Sloop with no safety lines and a dare-devil skipper who loved heavy weather sailing.  I guess four legs helped.

The house was situated on about 25 acres of fields and woods as well as several hundred yards of frontage on the river.  Buster loved that place. We’d drive up to  Maine as early as we could in June.  Back then it was a two day trip on Route One.  Buster was fine until late the second day when we crossed the bridge at Bucksport.  I don’t know what it was but he woke up with a bounce, sniffing and wagging his tail.  He knew we were getting near.  And when we arrived and let him out of the car he took off for the fields.  We would see a wiry black tail working its way through the hay field.  Then the tail went down and the nose came up.  How I wish I’d had a video camera so he could join the world of dog videos! It would take a couple of hours before he’d checked out the place and wound down.  Those summer months were heaven for all of us, but especially for Buster.  He lived to a ripe old age, bringing enjoyment and comfort to the whole family but he never forgot he was Sarge’s dog.

Here’s another persistent fellow.  Jack Russell terriers are among my favorites.  The breed is feisty, intelligent (despite the title) and energetic.  Oh yes, and stubborn!
