Get Fit for Summer
Why Should You Get Fit for Summer
Summer is just around the corner. It’s that time of year again when people are spending time at the pool, beaches and going on vacations. It doesn’t matter if you’re sporting the latest swimsuit or hanging loose in your shorts. It’s that time to start losing those excess pounds that most of us have gained during the holidays. You definitely don’t want to wait until it’s too late. Time can just creep up on you. Yup, we all eat our share of turkey, dressings, mashed potatoes and pumpkin pies. And boy is it easy to gain weight, but so hard to lose it.
Get Fit for Summer-Health Reasons
It is common sense that being over weight is bad for our health. I’m sure you’ve heard it, oh so many times. It also increases the risk of developing many diseases like diabetes, high blood pressure, hypertension, cancer and heart disease to just name a few. It affects your mood and your energy level as well. When you’re carrying that excess weight (mainly body fat), it zaps your energy and that turns into a catch-22 situation. The problem is when you’re tired, the last thing on your mind is to move around or exercise. All you want to do is just sit in front of the tube which would only lead to wanting to eat some of those all “too fattening” munchies. If you substitute your fattening munchies with healthy alternatives such as fruit and vegetables that will undoubtedly give you a boost. No wonder Americans have such a high rate of obesity in comparison to other countries.
Get Fit for Summer-Appearance
Your looks do matter. Whether we like it or not, but people often make a superficial judgment of us due to the way we look. As we age, our metabolism is shot as well. Our mid-section starts expanding. We start carrying around that spare tire or for men they call them beer belly. Not attractive at all! For women if your waist is more than 35 inches at the waist and for men if is more than 40 inches than you are in the high risk category for heart related diseases, diabetes, blood pressure and stroke and MUST lose weight if you want to live long enough to be around for a long time.
How to Get Fit for Summer
Eat More!
What? You’re probably thinking. Are you kidding?
Most people eat 3 meals a day (breakfast, lunch and dinner) and they figure in order to lose weight; they’ll cut out one of the 3 meals usually breakfast. The truth is that is probably the worst thing they can possibly do. It will actually have the reverse effect. Ironically, it will make you gain weight. However, if you eat 5 or 6 smaller meals a day, it will actually increase your metabolism and cause you to lose weight. How kewl is that? You want something that is sustainable for the long term, not a quick fad diet that only allows you to lose water weight. The goal is lose FAT.
Consuming your daily 8 glasses of water will also help.
If you couple that effort with 20 minutes of exercise daily, you’ll definitely be on your way to a fitter you by Summer. Start off with something simple like taking a stroll around the block. Even looking for ways to do cardio by doing chores! I like to multi-task.
Like Darren Hardy’s book “The Compound Effect”, if you are consistent, you’ll definitely see the results due to the compound effect.
There you have it, that’s how you can get fit for summer!
