Standing Up For Freedom

“Freedom is never more than one generation from extinction.” ~ Ronald Reagan
In other words, freedom is a sacred institution that must be protected and insured. It must be fought and sacrificed for. Freedom is hard fought and easily lost.
I sit here now and ask myself, our we that generation? The generation that allowed freedom, under our watch, to die without even a fight.
The election changed nothing in the dynamics of the individual party power in Washington. However, what is evident is that many of the people in this Nation did change. They evolved from a Nation of workers, to a Nation of takers. A Nation of ask not what your country can do for you but what can the country do for me?
In future posts, I will attempt to explain why and how I think this change has occurred. For many of us this is heartbreaking to watch unfold.
We no longer recognize this Nation and its people. If your anything like me, you thought that the last four years was just an anomaly. You thought that with the next election things would return to what we see as true America and a people of true American values. We sadly now see that it was no anomaly.
The president had indeed accomplished fundamental change in this Nation. He was able to take some of the most sacred American virtues and bury them.
Virtues like pride, honor, respect and belief in divine providence. When a government is able to remove a person’s belief in themselves and God, that government then becomes the highest authority. The only way government becomes the highest authority is if we allow it to happen. Thus saying, we accept it and become what they demand.
I stated in the last post that I will not change who I am or what I believe. Government will not be my highest authority.
I have written in earlier posts about the election and what we should do and now, in this post, how we should do it.
First and foremost we cannot give up. We have to remain involved. We must remain vigilant and we must remain united. Those of this Nation who would sell our freedoms will not sleep. They will not rest. In turn we must work harder and with more resolve to retain our God given freedoms.
I too felt defeated and hopeless after the election results became known. I too was tempted to give up and concede that maybe this Nation had changed too much and could not be saved.
I then began to think about this great Nation’s past. All those who stood and fought for freedom when it was hardest. When losing was not an option but a real possibility.
Those early patriots who crossed the Delaware.
Those who fought in Gettysburg.
Those who ran into the battle from the trenches or stormed the beaches on D Day.
Those who still fight for the freedom of this Nation across the globe today.
If they could hold freedom more dear than their lives, we must then hold ourselves to no less great a measure.
We must stay informed of all that is happening. We must hold the feet of our elected officials to the fire and make our voices heard. We must use whatever is at our disposal to peacefully make our voices known and our demands realized.
Those who can write, Write!
Those that can speak, Speak!
Those that can do, Do!
We have never been a nation of people who let history happen, but instead a nation of people who have made history. We must stay involved in the groups that share and represent our beliefs and values. The very same values that made this, our Nation, the greatest on earth.
All it takes for evil to prevail is for good people to do nothing. Do something please. I stand with you and hope you stand with me.
