Consistency is key when working on crate training with a young dog. Whenever you let your puppy out of the crate, he must be given the immediate chance to go potty. As he gets older, he will gain greater control of his bodily functions, making it easier to control himself.
When your pet jumps on you, squeeze its paws lightly. This will make it know jumping is not something that you want it to do. Do something that makes them uncomfortable so that they can associate their action with something negative. They should learn to stop jumping because they don’t like the reaction they get.
During leash training, it is necessary to ensure that the leash stays loose. Dogs want to explore new territories while going out for a walk. Their enthusiasm will lead to a large amount of strain being applied to their leash. Informed owners avoid this behavior by leaving a bit of slack when walking.
Your dog shouldn’t be leading you. You should lead him, he should not lead you. Get a decent training collar with a shorter leash to start obedience training, and make them heel when they go through gates, doors and walk with you. Don’t forget who is in charge.

Specific feeding habits should be established for your dog. Feed your dog twice a day and only leave his food dish out for fifteen minutes. This will help your dog learn his feeding schedule. Your dog will learn to finish eating before you take the dish away.
Never stop training your dog. Your dog doesn’t stop learning just because it’s no longer a puppy. If you reinforce desired behaviors, you will ensure your dog’s continued obedience, and by continuing to discipline your dog, you will prevent negative behaviors from appearing.
As your dog progresses, you won’t need to exert so much control. The balance between freedom and obedience is a rewarding one. Avoid giving too much freedom early on, as this can easily counteract your training.
It may take several times for your dog to learn new commands. You may need to repeat the command more than 20 or 30 times. Keep working patiently on the command- he’ll get it with time.
Don’t overlook check-ups for a pup. Training problems can sometimes be related to health problems. Dogs are able to easily hide any pain or discomfort. A lot of the time you will find that your dog is sick when they act differently. If your dog suddenly forgets his potty training or behaves in an aggressive manner, you may be dealing with a bladder infection.
Once you can bring out a dog’s ability to be trained, it is just a matter of consistently practicing the techniques. A well-trained pooch is a wonderful addition to any family, and your soon-to-be-trained dog is soon to be a joy to have around the house.
