Be Clear about What You Want
You must be clear about what you want to be successful. Write down your dreams and goal and be very clear in your writing about what you want and what actions you need to take to get there.
The key to being clear about what you want is belief in yourself. You must believe in yourself, your abilities, talents and skills that will enable you to be the success you want to be.
Control Your Mind
One of the key components of achieving a deep-seated belief in yourself is controlling your mind. You have to take control of your mind’s self-talk and work toward eliminating negative and self-limiting beliefs that can torpedo your desired success. In short, positive and limitless self-talk puts you into a constant state of positive expectations.
Why? Because your conscious mind is talking to your subconscious mind. Thus, over time by replacing the negative self-talk with positive self-talk, you take charge of your subconscious mind and change it. Then, it will work with you, rather than against you.
So, whenever negative self-talk pops into your mind, say “STOP!” or snap your fingers or do something to stop it immediately. Replace it with positive self-talk and do it in present tense. (I will have more about that, later.)
Some Examples of Negative Self-Talk
Want some examples of some of these negative self-talk thoughts? OK here are some examples:
- I can’t believe I did that! I’m so stupid.
- I’ll never lose weight!
- I’ll never make money at this!
- I’m not good enough to be a manager!
These are all examples of making yourself a victim of your own thoughts. You are self-hypnotizing yourself into believing that you are in capable or incompetent. This is not true at all.
You really need to correct this negative self-talk and replace it with positive self-talk.
Some Examples of Postive Self-Talk
Start talking to yourself as a winner, not as a victim. Here are some examples of positive self-talk thoughts:
- I can’t believe I did that! I know I can solve that problem.
- I am losing 25 pounds now. Everything I eat helps me to maintain my ideal body weight.
- I am becoming wealthy.
- I am a capable and talented manager.
What you are doing with conscious self-talk is telling you subconscious mind what to do. Every time you tell it what to do it does it.
What Your Subconscious Mind Does
For example when your self-talk is “I never lose weight” your subconscious is ordered by you to not lose any weight and so it keeps adding to your weight by putting on fat.
But when you tell it “I am losing 25 pounds now” it will take action and take the weight off by making better food choices, reducing the amount you eat and getting you to be more active through exercise.
The impact of what you say either out loud or through self-talk has a direct impact of how your subconscious behaves. You need to be very aware of what you are saying either out loud or via self-talk internally. Your subconscious mind is a very powerful tool that when you are able to control what you speak strongly influences what a how you think.
Get Help from a Friend
One way you can get help to overcome your negative thinking is to enlist the aid of a friend. Perhaps they are working on overcoming negative self-talk and thinking too. Work out a way, a signal, a word, or a gesture that will let each of you know whenever either of you are using negative self-talk or “victim language” as it is sometimes called. The use the signal as needed to correct your negative talk.
Use Affirmations to Change Your Self-Talk
Another way to build your positive self-talk is through the use of affirmations. These are positive statements that you repeat again and again until they become a part of your thinking. They help you to change your mind from negative to positive and to build your self-worth and self-confidence.
Affirmations work as a means of replacing the negative thoughts or self-talk with positive thoughts or self-talk. Just repeat them every day until you notice a change in yourself.
Here are some examples:
- I can create anything I want.
- I am worthy of success, happiness and joy.
- I am a capable person.
- I am worthy of love.
- I am loveable.
- I am smart and make wise choices.
- I am able to solve any problem in my life.
Write down between ten to twenty affirmations. Then, repeat them every day – several times a day, if needed – until they become a part of you and change your life for the better.
And be sure to remember this fact. The subconscious responds only to statements that are made in present tense, so that is very important to keep in mind whenever you write and speak an affirmation. It is very powerful to start your affirmation statements with “I am” and follow through with what you want.
Change Your Mind and Your Attitude
By doing all of this, you will change your mind, your beliefs in yourself and your attitude. You will really begin to believe in yourself and your ability to create anything you want. Then, you will be able to do anything that you set your mind to, because you are in control of your thoughts and your subconscious mind!
