Be Grateful for What You Have

Just Take A Look Around You!
There are many keys to maintaining a positive mindset. One key is to be grateful for what you have in your life. For instance, I am grateful that I have shelter from the cold – sometimes brutal cold – of winter. Also, I’m grateful that I have food to eat. Plus, there is the companionship of my dog that is near me all day long. Then, there is the beauty in nature, too.
Yesterday, we had a snow storm. We were warned that it would last all day and part of the night. Plus, the weather forecasters said we could get from 10 to 12 inches of snow by the time the storm was finished.
It turned out that the weather forecasters were right. I measured the snow in two different parts of my yard, and it measured 10 inches in one spot and 12 inches in another. But despite all of the inconvenience caused by the snowstorm, the results on the surrounding countryside were beautiful.
I was grateful for the snow because of its beauty. Children were grateful for the snow because they could go sledding and try to build snowmen. However, this snow was much too dry to enable it to hold together enough to roll a huge snow ball for the base, middle or head of a snowman.
My First Picture
Yet, it was beautiful. Just take a look at my front yard.
My Second Picture
The snow was so deep in my back yard that it was hard for my dog Poppy, a Boston terrier, to get around easily. Here is Poppy just outside my sun porch’s door.
She really had to struggle when she went far out into the yard to explore and ran into a snow drift when she turned around to come back. Anxiously I watched as she plowed through the drift that was over her head in a couple of places.
Thankfully she made it through the drift and then hurried toward the sun porch door where she saw me waiting for her.
My Third Picture
The snow in my back yard was beautiful as well. I shot two pictures. This picture was taken in a westerly direction through my herb garden.
My Fourth Picture
And this picture was taken in an easterly direction toward my red tool shed, the side of which appears on the left side of the picture.
Yes, I am Grateful for the Snow and the Cold Weather!
The snow was really beautiful and I am grateful for the beauty that it left us. Everything was covered in a beautiful white blanket of snow.
However, the cold weather that followed has been brutal. Last night our temperature plummeted to 0 degrees Fahrenheit. By 10 am today the temperature outside was only 8 degrees Fahrenheit and the weather forecasters said we could expect a high of 14. (I saw later that it only reached 11 degrees Fahrenheit.)
Yet, there was a good side to the brutal cold as well. Hot soup and hot tea tasted so wonderful for lunch, warming me inside after being out in the brutal cold air.
Tonight I will curl up with a cup of hot chocolate and a good book to read. And I will be grateful to my God and to His universe for the snow and the cold weather!
