It Snowed Here Today

We Have Had Between 6 and 8 Inches of Snow.

It’s weird! I spoke to my son’s family via Facebook earlier this week when I saw on the Weather Channel what kind of weather Dallas, Texas was getting – snow and freezing rain. I was sincerely hoping that I would not be getting such wintry weather until January. But that wish was not granted by Mother Nature.

It Was My Grandson Acton’s First Communion Today!

So, early this morning, I got up and got ready for church. My grandson, Acton, was having his first communion and my daughter had invited me to come along with her family to the Lutheran church they attend.

When I left my home this morning and drove to her house in Westminster, the roads were clear and there was no sign of precipitation of any kind. I checked the Weather Channel and they showed radar of the snow storm moving our direction. So there was no doubt we were going to get some snow.

I arrived at the home of my daughter and son-in-law about ten minutes early, and parked my car. Then, my daughter, son-in-law, two grandsons, and me got into their van and headed to church.

We arrived on time, and in a few minutes the service began. It was lively, with contemporary music and worship. At communion they recognized all of the children who were taking their first communion including my grandson, Acton. He did very well when he received his communion, I am proud to say.

Then the Snow Began to Fall, During the Church Service.

We returned to our seats and as we were enjoying the singing during the communion, we looked over through one of the big clear windows and saw that it had begun to snow. And it was really coming down, heavily.

After the communion was completed, the service came rapidly to a close, and most folks headed toward the parking lot and their cars including us. I told my daughter that I thought it would be a good idea for me to head home because there was no telling how the roads would be. (We had planned to have breakfast together following the service.)

So, I bid my grandsons, son-in-law, and daughter good bye, brushed the snow off my car and headed home. I’m glad I did because the road on which I live was snow-covered when I arrived, and I knew it would have been really treacherous to negotiate if I had arrived later.

The Snowfall Became Lighter by Late Afternoon.

When there was break in the snowfall I went outside and measured it in my backyard in a couple places. It measured 6 inches in one spot and 8 inches in another. The snowfall was so beautiful that I wanted to share it with you.

So, I took four pictures. I’ve written a description of each one in the order they appear in this post from top to bottom.

  • The first one in this post is my backyard.
  • The second is my main herb garden, which is in my back yard.
  • The third is a shot of my front yard and Charmil Drive, the street on which I live.
  • And the last picture is part of the line of Norway spruce trees between me and my next door neighbor.

It was a wonderful Sunday, even with the snowy weather. As I write this post, we continue to get more snow. However, the weather bureau promises us that the snow will stop early tonight. Then, early tomorrow morning – Monday – we are supposed to get freezing rain!  Wow! Winter is here!
