I’m Reading an Interesting Book by Jim Rohn

I’m reading The Five Major Pieces by the late Jim Rohn. What is really stunning in the Foreword of this book is is the quote in the third paragraph which says: “To have more we must first become more.” And this is the essence of Jim Rohn’s philosophy that he addressees in this book.
The book is short. It has an introduction, five chapters, and a conclusion. In the Introduction, Mr. Rohn relates that most books are written to entertain or inform. Then, he states that this book was written to inspire! Why? Simply because, he says, that there is something in your life that you’d like to change. Then, he states that whatever has driven you to pick up and read this book is because you are searching for answers and you are ready for change. Then, he states that is what this book is all about, transforming you from where and what you are to where and what you desire to be.
Then, he goes on to explain how this process of change begins, relating how you come to the realization that you need to make a change in your life. The realization of needed change leads to your being inspired and willing to make major and dramatic changes in your life.
Next he introduces the concept that there are the basics, the fundamentals in life that we need to master. He states that these basics are the keys to success and happiness that have existed for six thousand years. There are five basics that he presents in the book, and each one is presented in the five chapters that follow. He calls them “The Five Major Pieces to the Life Puzzle.”
The five pieces — and five chapters of the book — are Philosophy, Attitude, Activity, Results, and Lifestyle. I found this to be really interesting, and indeed, since joining the Empower Network, I have heard many of these five basics discussed again and again by the leaders of the Network.
It’s a really great book to read, truly inspirational and chock full of wonderful information. I will probably share more about it in a future blog post.
