Many struggle to understandSearch Engine Optimization (SEO) because there is so much information out there about it. It is so easy to get overloaded with SEO information, but there is simple on page SEO to improve your search engine ranking.
Why Do You Need To Use Simple On Page SEO To Improve Your Search Engine Ranking
This may be something that you do not want to hear, but the purpose of the search engines is not to drive traffic to your website. Their real purpose is to find relevant information for the people doing searches. If they do a good job, more people will start using that search engine.
You can get an amazing amount of traffic from the search engines, but Google, Bing, and the others do not care about your pretty website. They are more concerned at giving the searchers a better experience than the other search engines.
But it is this tempting possibility of having a lot of traffic sent to your website that cause many to be interested in SEO. Of course if you rank higher in the search engine you will have to bow to the search engines’ wishes to get a piece of this pie.
How The Search Engines Work
The search engines send bots out to scour the internet for information. These bots (sometimes called spiders) are very sophisticated and when they come to your website, they try to figure out what your website is about.
The bots looks at numerous things on your website. One of the things it looks for is how well is the content written. While the content does not need to be perfect grammatically, it needs to be easy to read. One of the easiest grammar checks you can do is after you finish your blog post, go back and read it a loud just the way it is written. You can catch a lot of grammar errors by doing this.
Length of the blog post is another important aspect. Normally at least having 500 words is good, but this changing as some are realizing that blog posts closer to 1000+ words are becoming easier to rank.
Also realize that most people scan the internet, they do not read. So it is a good idea to keep your paragraphs short. It may look choppy, but it does make it easier to read.
The bots of course checks out any links on your website. What websites is it linking to? This is where off page SEO come into play, but we are only focusing on on page SEO to improve your search engine ranking.
All this things and information is brought back to the search engines by these bots. The search engines then use a complicated and secret algorithm to decide where to rank your website for different keywords.
Although the bots can do some amazing things and are always improving to catch people trying to game the system, its main job is trying to figure out what is your content about. So on page SEO is your chance to tell the bots what your content is about.
How To Use On Page SEO To Improve Your Search Engine Ranking
These are some simple things you can do with on page SEO to improve your search engine ranking with your blog posts.
A lot of these things involve your keyword or keyword phrase. All a keyword or keyword phrase is what word or phrase a person will enter into the search engine to find your content. Normally your keyword is always going to be a phrase, not just one word. For simplicity, when I say keyword I am talking about a keyword phrase.
It is better to focus on one keyword per blog post.
It is a good idea to use long tailed keyword phrases. All this is a longer very specific phrase to describe your blog post. These makes it easier to rank for that phrase. It also increases your chances to rank for snippets of that keyword phrase that people will enter into the the search engines.
I normally use a long tail keyword for the title. However, the rest of the blog post I am focusing on a part of that long tailed keyword phase. Unless it is possible to fit the long tailed keyword naturally into my blog post. If I can, I use the long tailed keyword all the way through the blog post (this is what I am doing with this blog post).
As mentioned already, your keyword should appear in the title, the first paragraph, last paragraph, and sprinkled through out the blog post a few times. They should naturally flow with your content.
You should have your keyword in at least 3 places now, if not more. Take one and bold it, pick another one and put it in italics, and finally take one and underline it. They should all be the same keyword, but in different places in the blog post.
Next is the tags. These are just header tags and can be used to break up your content with a new section. When you do this, the font will be larger and the font color may change. So it does break up your content nicely and I think it makes it more appealing.
Most WordPress themes now, the title will already be a h1 tag so you don’t have to worry about that one. Take your keyword and put in a h2 tag, and also a h3 tag. Order is not important, and there is really no need to use the other header tags, just these three. (refer to the video below to see how to do this)
It is a good idea to put pictures also in your content. It makes your content more appealing, and every one loves pictures. At least use one. When you add the picture there will be a alt text box, put your keyword in that box.
Finally, try to interlink your pages. It may not be possible sometimes, but link to another one of your blog post when you can. It is easier to use an example for this.
You wrote a blog post about to pick up women and then you write a blog post about seduction and you have the keyword pick up women from your former post in your new post. Take that keyword and link it back to your former post about how to pick up women.
