LL Cool J Burglary Beat Down

Restored from the Empower Network archive (2011–2017), lightly edited to meet our current advertising standards. Views are the original author’s.

I saw this a few days ago about the LL Cool J Burglary and thought it was quite funny. Basically, LL Cool J gave a beat down to a burglar and had the guy under control when the police arrived. During the whole process LL Cool J broke the burglar’s nose, jaw, and ribs.

According to his rep, “LL Cool J, and his family, are safe and thank everyone for their thoughts and concern. As a father, husband and citizen, he is committed to keeping his family safe and is cooperating with authorities on this private matter.”

Why is the LL Cool J burglary story so popular?

This story has been picked up by numerous newspapers and news websites. I even heard it discussed on a sports talk show (The Sports Junkies). Of course, most picked it up because of the celebrity status of LL Cool J, an actor in a popular TV show and a legend in music.

The other reason is that everyone likes to see the victim rise up and take justice into their own hands and turn the tables on the criminal. That is exactly what happened in the LL Cool J burglary story.

Who got the beat down during the LL Cool J burglary?

His name is Jonathan Kirby aged 56 who has a lengthy arrest record for stealing, fighting, and drugs. He was previously convicted of Manslaughter in 1998 in Dallas, Texas. He has also been convicted of auto theft, burglary, and petty theft in Los Angeles.

He now faces 38 years to life in prison since he is a third striker, from the three strikes you are out rule. He is believed to the person responsible for other break-wins in the Studio City area. However, it is safe to say I don’t think he will be breaking into any houses again anytime soon.

Especially after getting a beat down in the LL Cool J burglary.

I have always been a fan of LL Cool J. He is known for his acting career and his character on NCIS, but he is probably better known for his music career. Where he has won numerous awards, including two Grammy Awards.

Living up to his stage name LL Cool J (Ladies Love Cool James). He is also one of the first to show a softer side of rap when he mixed rap and love ballads. Some of these songs are “I Need Love,” “Around The Way Girl,”and “Hey Lover.”

I remember buying his album Momma Said Knock You Out in 1991, in my opinion this is still one of the best rap albums. Other than the title track, it also has “The Boomin’ System,” “Around The Way Girl,” “Jingling Baby,” “6 Minutes Of Pleasure.” This album was also ranked in the top 100 rap album by The Source, and ranked sixth greatest hip-hop album ever by Chris Rock.

I still get hyped up from Momma Said Knock You Out.

This song goes perfectly with the LL Cool J burglary.

What happened during the LL Cool Burglary

Around 1:00am on Wednesday (August 22, 2012) that LL Cool J heard some noise coming from his kitchen. He went to investigate, and a man came at him that lead to the fight that LL Cool J gave a beat down to the burglar.

His daughter called 911 and by the time the cops arrived, LL Cool J had detained the burglar, and the cops took the burglar into custody.

I guess Jonathon Kirby did not do enough pre-burglary research before breaking into LL Cool J’s house. Still, not sure what he was thinking about at attacking LL Cool J.

LL Cool J is a huge and built like a tank. One website has him listed at 6’3″ and 215 pounds. This is one guy I would not try to fight.

Not sure what Jonathon Kirby was thinking, but as soon I saw LL Cool J, I would be running to the closest door to get out of the house. I definitely would not be trying to attack him.

Luckily, LL Cool J and no one in his family were hurt during the LL Cool J burglary, and LL Cool J lived up to his TV and music persona.
