HUD- Housing and Urban Developement

Today I went to a small developement in my home town to fill out the paperwork for a small apartment and receive assistance from HUD. In order to obtain this assistance you have to sign a large number of forms. I felt like I was buying a car you know how that is you have to sign what seems like a thousand forms before you can drive it off the lot.

You have to consent for release of information on all income you are receiving from the state to the federal level. I seems to me that it takes a great deal of effort to acquire any type of assistance these days.  I know it took me at least 20 minutes or more to fill out what I needed to  to apply for food stamps and after all that effort I was turned down. A few years ago when I actually did receive food stamps I only ended up getting ten dollars a month. That is pretty sad if you ask me.

HUD for Seniors

I have yet to read all the information I was given , I do understand that what I applied for is what they call section 8  which is a rent supplement program and you nee to get prior approval before you can participate.

Seniors benefit from this program because it is subsidized through the state and federal government. This means that your rent is determined by the amount of money that you earn monthly through social security and what ever other assets you may have.

These programs are all well and good however I feel that it is a shame that a person works all of their lives and ends up needing assistance. I know that not everyone needs or wants assistance. When you don’t plan and a lot of people don’t even earn enough to savc for retirement.

HUD for all Others

Of course hud also helps, single mothers, families and whoever else may be eligible for this assistance. This organization also helps people receive assistance in the purchase of a home. So if you should be a first time home buyer you can receive this assistance and maybe have a monthly payment that you can afford.

I am not very well versed in this topic as you may have deduced by now. I just thought I would write about it and give just a basic idea of what this consists of.  No matter who you are you may qualify for hud assistance.
