With Good Intentions – Isn’t This What We All Start Out With?

Restored from the Empower Network archive (2011–2017), lightly edited to meet our current advertising standards. Views are the original author’s.

I resolve to do this, I resolve to do that…don’t we all make those resolutions at the beginning of each New Year. We have good intentions and we want to stay on course toward those positive goals but somehow we end up dropping the ball and losing our straight and narrow road. We all do it…procrastination and excuses. We would rather be watching a movie, reading a book, playing a pc game or chatting/texting our friends or maybe spending hours on Facebook with our peeps.

Stop the Madness!! The reason I say this (I myself am so guilty of this) is that if we want to reach our goals in life we have to put away the childish games and get down to business. I for one was hooked on Farmville, Frontierville and just about every other Facebook game. I would spend hours building my make believe farm and take great joy at getting the prized strawberry spotted cow. I made friends very easily and we would help one another build our escape from the real world. But there comes a time in life when you must make those changes and ‘cut the cord’ so to speak so that you can focus on your tasks at hand. When I realized what I was doing and I made a change, this is where things started to happen in my business.

When you treat your internet business like a business and not like a hobby then the success that you have dreamed of could also be happening to you. Act as if you are working for someone else, then you are able to give it your best. You sell yourself short if you do not do this.

Here are a few tips to help you keep those ‘Good Intentions’:

1. Discover why you are procrastinating. Are you afraid of failure or cannot start working until every detail is in order? Stop being a perfectionist and take action. The only failure here is to not begin.

2. Large difficult tasks can be broken up into smaller pieces. Tackle each piece separately.

3. Set a definite deadline. This could be a small scale deadline that you are able to commit to doing. The idea here is to make it achievable so that when you complete it you feel like you are making headway and achieving success. The success that you feel will drive you forward to achieve bigger and better things.

4. Schedule your work time into smaller blocks of time such as one or two hour stints with a small break between instead of doing your tasks in long drawn out stretches.

5. Start each large project with the easiest tasks first. In this way you will feel like you have finished part of a long complex project.

6. Get an accountability partner. Enlist the aid of family, friends or co-workers that will help you finish a particular project within a certain timeframe.

7. Concentrate. Remove anything that is a distraction such as a television, radio or anything else that will keep you away from the job at hand.

There’s an old saying that ‘Good Intentions Pave the Road to Hell’; Let’s stop the excuses and the dawdling because now it is time to concentrate on getting your internet business off the ground and running full steam ahead.

I hope you have found this blog useful and that you will share it with your friends and family on LinkedIn, Twitter, Google +, and Pinterest.

I am wishing you success with your ‘Good Intentions’,
