An Event That Changed My Life

Second assignment from David Wood is a bit of a mystery to me where I am supposed to interpret what he talked about which I think is an event that changed my life.

I’ve been sitting here thinking about this and I have lived a pretty boring life.  I can think of maybe an event that changed my life or two but not 5.

Not even sure they really changed my life or maybe I just never paid that much attention to it.   So I’ll write about 5 things that have happened in my life that stand out as my interpretation of David’s blog.

An Event That Changed My Life: The Fight

My father was is an Air Force vet and we used to move around every 2 – 3 years from place to place which made it really hard to make friends and because I went to public school those of us called military brats were picked on a lot.

One day I was coming home from school and this kid jumped me and beat the crap out of me and I went home to a very disappointed father.  My dad had picture of him back in high school with the Fonzi look and didn’t take crap from anyone. Here’s his son the pansy getting the shit kicked out of him.

Well one day a few months after that I got jumped and this kid was just pushing me around and I don’t know what came over me but I jumped on top of him and just started wailing til someone came and broke it up.

Later that night the kid showed up at my house with this dad and I was thinking “oh shit”.  Dad answered the door and I was to his right but out of view.   Kids dad goes “your son beat my kid up”  I was shaking when he said this, but then my dad gave me a thumbs up and a wink.  Then he said to the kids dad “your son deserved it and if you don’t get your ass out of here I’ll kick yours too”

After that day I never let another kid beat me up.   Guess that was an event that changed my life and that brought up some feelings I haven’t had in awhile.

An Event That Changed My Life:
My Breakup Of My First Girl Friend

You are probably wondering how does this fit into the picture.  I was with the same girl right out of high school and we dated for 4 years and we were going to get married but then  I realized what type of a person she was and what type of a person I was by an event that changed my life.

I was driving home from work one day and witnessed a bad accident right in front of me.  Two cars hit each other and swerved off the road and into a ditch.  The one car though badly damaged took off and fled the scene.

The other guy got out of his car and walked about 1 foot then collapsed.  Myself and several other people ran to help the man and one of the people with us just happened to be a doctor.  Doc told us the sun was going down and we needed to keep the man warm.  So we took off our jackets and wrapped him up.

Waited for the ambulance to come and they took him a way.  I never did find out if he was ok or not though.  Later that night I go home and tell my gf all about the event.  Her reaction floored me.  She said you shouldn’t have helped the man, what if he sues you, what if he dies and the family sues you. that was stupid of you to do that.

It was that night I called off the wedding and told her I hope if you are ever dying in a ditch that people with more compassion then you stop and help you.  I can’t be with someone who shows no compassion for another human being and broke it off with her.

An Event That Changed My Life: Getting in Amway

I was in Amway some 15 years ago and an event that changed my life while in that business wasn’t becoming successful.  It was something that happened while I was at a function.

I don’t remember the speaker, might have been Larry Winters, but it was Sunday morning church service.  Let me pause a second here.  If you have never been to an Amway function and experienced the power of the speakers especially on Sunday you have no clue what your missing.

I was in Amway for about 11 years and had been to several Sunday services.  This one though I don’t know what came over me but I felt an uncontrollable flame inside that brought me to my knees and I started to cry uncontrollably.

That was the day I was saved.  I still curse from time to time, I don’t always go to church, I am not your good boy Christian type but I believe with every fiber of my being that Jesus Christ died on that cross for my sins and I will never stop believing that.

An Event That Changed My Life: Getting Back to Business

Back earlier this year I would come home, play facebook games, play on my PS3 or some games online and then watch tv and go to bed.  Get up the next morning and do it all over again.

It was always nagging me though about quitting Amway some 11 years ago.  What might life be like now if i wouldn’t have quit?  My life is boring, I do nothing, I go no where because going to drink in the bar with a bunch of strangers bored me to tears so I never did it.

I almost got back into Amway at this time but decided to jump into another business with a friend and ended up getting online to find ways to get leads.  Wound up in MLSP and struggled a lot before I found Empower.

The point of all that though and why this is an event that changed my life is I was so bored with life.  Going to work then coming home and doing the routine is no life.  Its not helping anyone else and I remember that feeling I had when I was in Amway the first time someone saw the circles and their eyes lit up with hope.

I can’t give anyone hope at work.   I can’t do that sitting in front of my TV or playing video games or going to a bar.  So for me this was an event that changed my life and that was getting back into the game of life.  I still don’t know what I am doing and I am still struggle to even make my first sale but I am at least pointed in the right direction.

I will figure this out and I will not quit again.  There is nothing a job can give you but dead eye sockets that just drains the life out of you.   Anyway I am rambling

An Event That Changed My Life: The Ghost

I don’t if it was a ghost or not but I do believe something out of the ordinary happened this day.

When I was in high school their was this kid named Robbie and he was very popular in school.   His 3 best friends were myself, my friend Mark and my friend Buddy.

One day we were at school and heard that Robbie got pulled under while swimming in a gravel pit.  Just writing this makes me sad.  We were good friends, Robbie was a fun kid.

Anyway Robbie always wore a blue jean jacket, blue jeans and sneakers.  We never saw him in anything else but that.  Myself and my two friends were on the way to his funeral when my one friend looks back at us from looking out the window, he was pale white with a freaked out look on his face.

He said he just saw Robbie standing in a field wearing dress pants and a dress shirt waving.   We get to the viewing and there laying in the casket was Robbie in dress pants and a dress shirt the same exact color my friend had seen.

Not sure if this was an event that changed my life or not but it made me a believer in things we do not know about and when people tell me they seen a ghost I don’t discard it as hooky

An Event That Changed My Life: Conclusion

This is to date the longest post I have ever written and I am not sure this is what Dave was looking for but I just couldn’t stop writing.  To think I sometimes have writers block is laughable right now.

So if this was what he was looking for then I guess its safe to say an event that changed my life turned from one to many.
