As I explained in “The Power Of Hypnotic Language“, the words you use have a real affect on your thinking… and thus, your results. In this post I’ll be covering one specific “dirty” word that can impact your life and success in a not-so-good way…
…and that word is “but“.
Know When To Kick The “But” Out Of Your Conversation
Let’s take a simple conversation and look at how the word “but” can be an issue:
John: “Hey Sue! I heard you were making money in your business now! That’s great!”
Sue: “Thanks John! Yes, I am making money but I need to keep learning and growing so I can retire on the beach soon!”
Did you catch what just happened? Sue’s use of the word “but” negated everything she said before it. This has an impact on the subconscious as it then begins to look for and create references in reality that support this statement.
Since we know that words are very powerful and we can use them to “speak” our desires into reality… wouldn’t it make more sense to use words that empower us?
Let’s see what Sue’s statement sounds like when we replace “but” with “and”:
Sue: “Thanks John! Yes, I am making money and I need to keep learning and growing so I can retire on the beach soon!”
That one word changed the energy of the entire statement from being somewhat downtrodden and exhausted to being open and positive.
How Much Would Your Life Change In Just One Week Of Kicking The “But” Out Of The Conversation?
Of course there are other words you can use besides “and” to kick the “but” out and elevate your language. Here are some everyday statements using the word “but” magically transformed using some great alternatives:
I’m good at ____ but I still need practice.
I’m good at ____ and I still need practice.
My friends like me but I’m annoying sometimes.
My friends like me even though I’m annoying sometimes.
Sure I can do it but I need the money.
Sure I can do it when I get the money.
The “But” Stops Here
I hereby issue you a personal challenge: To focus on and pay attention to your use of the word “but” and eliminate it from your vocabulary as much as possible!
You’ll be amazed at how kicking the “but” out will improve how you feel!
Be blessed!
