What is music therapy?

Last night I truly experienced what music therapy is. Yesterday was rough. Fall allergies are here and as evil as ever before. The watering of the eyes in addition to the scratchiness of the eyes, nose and throat. Don’t forgot the runny nose coming from out of left field. I’m not quite sure if I’m allowed to take Claritin during pregnancy which is my allergy medicine of choice. I’ll be sticking it out until I can call the doctor in the morning! It was truly a day a when I wished a lived closer to my wonderfully supportive family so that I could just get a little bit of me time.

By the end of the day, my allergies let up a little. Whoop Whoop. Ricardo got home from work and took Isaiah to the park for some much needed man time and Jasmine decided to put her 2 year old struggles( terrible 2′s) on hold long enough to let me breathe and reflect on how much I am grateful for.
Well I am writing all of this to tell you about how I forgot the power of jazz music and music in general. At the end of the night I try and collect my thoughts and brainstorm the day I will have the next day. During this time, Jasmine was resisting the bedtime at all cost so I turned on Pandora to our favorite little smooth jazz station. For some time, I forgot about the power of this station because lately we have been listening to Barney and all her favorite nursery rhymes. The music knocked her out almost instantly and it helped clear my mind also.
I will definitely be playing smooth jazz on a daily basis from now on. It may be essential to my sanity during this chaotic time trying to get ready for this baby and prepare for the holiday season quickly approaching.
Jazz may not be your genre of choice but when the tough times seem to be getting the best of you, plug into what makes you happy and let it do what it does best. Soothe and provide therapeutic relief. I thank my dad for getting the kids and I hooked on jazz. It really is a great for of art and therapy! Zone out with your music of choice then refocus on the task at hand with new clarity!

Be sure to comment below with a time when music turned your day around! I look forward to hearing from you.
Be Blessed… Love~Michal~
