Well you can start doing little changes in your life. Changes that will push you forward. Having the knowledge is one thing. Using it in the real life is something else. It is necessary to concentrate on using the knowledge you posses in real life. You might not use it all at once. You might use just some of it for the start.
I believe mental toughness is a big deal in life. Studies have shown that intelligence accounts for only 30% of your achievement. It means the grit- the mental toughness, plays much more important role than it is perceived by many.
Here some tips on how to use your knowledge on mental toughness:
1. Find out what mental toughness means for you.
Now for most of us the mental toughness means not the same thing. We all have different goals, and our personal definitions of mental toughness will vary. Some of us want to get better at swimming, some at running technique and others at developing a good training plan. You need to know your goal and focus on that area and develop your mental toughness there.
My short term goals are not to miss a single work-out. If I have to miss a session, I will just move the session to some other day. This is my means to me developing my mental toughness around that.
2. Make it your habit.
It is more about consistency than will power. Mental toughness is about consistency. Being able to stick to your schedule over certain period of time. That is what it takes. Make it your habit to be consistent with your goals. It is your behavior you have to focus on. Get into a routine, a routine that you believe will bring you the results. It is ok to forget about the goals sometimes. But it is important to keep the routine going. The results will come. If you get sidetracked or similar, just get back on your track and start again. Hopefully you learned something new about yourself.
3. Every victory, even a small one is a great one.
Long-term goals are great and important. But achieving the short-term goals makes us stronger and gives us the mental push we need to take on the next task with passion and enthusiasm. Concentrate on the small victories in your everyday life. And this will not only motivate you but also gives you the proof of your powerful mental game. Sometimes small tiny things can make you grumpy. Overcoming these little pains also improves your mental toughness. Be aware of them and fight them so that you stay on your track all the time.
The inspiration to write this blog post came from another blog post that I find just great. I just gave you my take on ideas regarding mental toughness mentioned here.
Cheers.
