How and why I started with running.

We married in 1999. The wedding was great. People loved the food and also the entertainment we prepared. We spent our honeymoon in Spain,
Costa Brava in a cheap but clean hotel. We even went on a daytrip to see Barcelona. It was a great day.
Year 2001. I was really depressed.
We spent the New Year’s Eve 2000 in Paris. The city of love. Well yes. We had a great time. But something went wrong. And I know I was partially to blame.
May be I did not love my wife deeply and passionately enough. I remember the tiny hotel we stayed in.
After I lost all the money we had, my wife had to vomit into the bathroom toilet. I gambled in the streets of Paris.
Not that I wanted. We had an argument. I had to do something. So I lost the money.
Two years later I was sitting in my parents’ house and I was trying to concentrate very hard. I read my study book
maybe 10 times already and could not remember a word. I hated the subject.
My estranged wife was living in a flat downtown, far away from me. She was thinking of me.
I was thinking of her. I sent her an SMS. There came no answer.
Two hours later she wrote me:“Please do not contact me. Let’s make it easier for both of us. “
I was angry, I was sad. I did not know what I was supposed to feel.
Later that night I went to a bar. I had couple of beers and a shot of something. I sent her another SMS.
The very next day I decided to fight my depression and sadness. I knew I was responsible.
I put on old running shoes and went out. I ran for about an hour. One hour.
It felt great. I mean really great. It was a bright sunny day. That was the day when I decided that whatever happens in my life I will always fight back.
And I can always go for a jog and feel much better.
10 years later I still run. Not every day. But surely every week. If I do not run I go for a swim or a spinning class. I do triathlon and now I even train for an Ironman.
I assume my ex-wife is happy now. She is married again, two kids. Great. I am happy for her. She married a guy twice her age. I know him. He is a great guy.
Leve me some comments if you had similar experience, I would love to hear your story too.
Cheers.
Maroschief.
