Hikkaduwa is a small town on the south coast of Sri Lanka less than 100km from Colombo which is about a 3 hour drive away.
About 17 km from the town of Galle this small town is famous for its beaches, surfing, corals and night life. The main road though this town runs from Colombo to Galle. The road is busy and you are advised to use caution when crossing.
The town has very skilled tailors/dressmakers who will custom make shirts, trousers, dresses and shorts at very reasonable prices.
Hikka, as the town of Hikkaduwa is fondly known, is very popular with board-surfers. It’s a well-known international destination for board-surfing, you can relax and watch the surfers from a whole range of beach side restaurants or you can join in to catch a wave or two.

You can hire diving equipment though qualified PADI schools or dive shops.
There are also shipwrecks for divers to explore.
If you prefer you can take a glass bottom boat trip to see the beautiful coloured corals home to countless number of colourful fish. Many species of exotic fish and turtles can be seen.
Meet Rosie the turtle, Rosie is one of two turtles that regularly come in over the reef to be feed by the tourists. Most days Rosie and Monica can be seen in the shallows.
There is lots of beach front accommodation which is one of the reasons many people visit this gem of a town.
You can also find various very good quality accommodation a few feet from the beach, across the main road, at very reasonable prices.
You will find hotels, shops, bars, restaurants and guest houses here so there is plenty to see and do in Hikkaduwa.
Sunday is market day, from early in the morning till about lunchtime thousands of locals come to shop for their weekly supplies of rice, vegetables, dried fish and so much more. A visit to this fascinating insight into local life is a “must do” couple of hours that you won’t regret.
