The Best Time To Send Email

Best Time to Email Broadcast.

Email Marketing is one of the most popular forms of advertising on the internet. It is one of the favoured forms of advertising used for selling a product or to

build your list.

But what is the best time of day to send emails to take advantage of the process.

It is really hard to ascertain due to  the different habits of subscribers plus the different time zones around the world.

I received an email today from Rosie Cottis.

Rosie produces PLR articles for purchase at the following site

Following is an account of when she sends emails.

I have some useful information for you today.

If you have a subscriber list, you’ll want to have people open your emails. And one thing that will help you to achieve this is knowing when is the best time to send.

Of course, the absolute best time to send any message is when the recipient is sitting at their computer actively checking their email. Emails that arrive when the person is away from their computer are much more likely to be deleted without being read, especially if they arrive in the night or during holidays when a huge number of unread messages may build up.

That’s fine if you’re only sending to one person. It’s no problem to send at a time when you’re pretty sure they will see it. But when you have thousands of subscribers with different work habits it’s a little more difficult.

Analysing Email messages

GetResponse recently analyzed over 21 million messages sent through their system from US-based account holders. They found that there were two time windows when many more of the emails were opened: from 8 am to 10 am, and from 3 pm to 4 pm.
The click-through rates were higher at these times too.

They found that around 25% of opened email is opened within one hour of it arriving. The rate drops sharply to less than 10% in the second hour, and keeps dropping from there. After about 6 hours, half of it has been opened. By the next day, the amount opened per hour is under 1%.

These figures are more useful than general studies of how the population responds to email because most of the emails sent through GetResponse will be marketing emails. This is about people opening email from marketers like you and me, and we can profit from that kind of information.

Rosie sends Emails…..

I usually send around 10 am EST and there are two reasons for that. The first is that if I used that 3-4 pm slot, there are only a couple of hours before people shut down their computers and start their evening activities.

(Of course in some niches you might find that people are more likely to open your email in the evening and at weekends, but I know that I get much better open rates sending most emails Monday-Thursday during business hours.)

Email Time Zones.

The second reason is time zones. Most of my customers are in North America but I also have a lot in the UK/Europe, with a much smaller but still significant number in Australia/
New Zealand and elsewhere in the world.

10 am EST is 3 pm in the UK (4 pm elsewhere in western Europe), so that’s why I think it’s the best time for me to send.
Any earlier would be too early on the US west coast (3 hours ahead of EST) and if I send later I start to lose Europe.
Unfortunately, it’s 2 am in Sydney

In most AWeber accounts now you can segment your lists by country using the IP address and I imagine you could then set up your messages to go to different segments at different times … but I’m grandfathered in to the old version of
AWeber which doesn’t have that option. Maybe I should upgrade!

But whatever time you pick, it’s probably a good idea to change it sometimes to keep your list on their toes You could switch to an afternoon or early morning time slot now and then, or send an email at the weekend. It’s better not to be too predictable.
