Preparing Your Children for the Future.

As a parent, there is much we want for our children.  We want them to be good people who are giving and caring, happy with themselves and life, and successful in whatever they choose including relationships and career.  That’s not too much to ask, is it?

The question, then, is, ” Are you preparing your children for their future and helping them to become the kind of adults you want them to be”?

Sometimes it’s scary to think you have so much responsibility in raising your kids and there are no ‘do-overs’.  Yet, even though it is your job to guide them, it’s up to them to actually run with it.  Here are some of the things you’d like them to learn:

* self-confidence
* self-motivation
* self-sufficiency
* self-esteem

Notice that these contain the word “self”.  That means they come from within your child.

Preparing your children for the future…..

……..makes it your responsibility  to help guide them and show them how:-

* to have goals,

* achieve success,

* be proud of their achievements.

In short, you can’t make them be self-confident and happy, but you can show them how to work towards what makes them confident or happy.  You can set the stage, so to speak.

Like it or not, as a parent, you are modeling these things.  As the caregiver, you are used to cooking, cleaning, and taking care of other members of the household.  Do you take time for yourself too and do what makes you feel happy and good about yourself?

If they only see you doing housework and cooking and you never take a break to soak in a bubble bath or meet friends for an adult lunch, you’re sending a message that your life is all work and no play.  You’re saying that you don’t think you’re very important.

I grew up with a dad who could do anything.  He tried, and accomplished all sorts of things.  He knew his strengths and broke apart big ideas into small manageable tasks and did them one after another until he achieved what he set out to do.  He sent me a very strong message about self-confidence as well as goal setting.

Learning to set goals in all areas of life is a very useful skill for children to learn.  They can set goals regarding school grades, school activities or outside activities such as music, art or sports.

They can learn how to handle money and have success with it by setting up monetary goals too.

With Goal Setting For Kids – How To Guide Your Kids to Achieve Great Success in Life, you can guide your kids in a positive way as well as empower them to achieve wonderful things in their lives.

If you demonstrate self-confidence, self-motivation, self-sufficiency and show self-esteem in your everyday lives, then you are well on your way to preparing your children for the future.
