Three posts, and one of them runs past three thousand words on the mechanics of a single page. Everything else on the blog defers to that checklist. It works through the elements of a post one at a time, in the order they matter, written by somebody who spent years reading his own source code and adjusting until a page ranked.

The shorter companion piece narrows the same subject to three things a blogger should always do, aimed at anybody putting real effort into posts and getting a few dozen visitors a month for the trouble.

The third post answers the question people are most embarrassed to ask, which is what to write about at all. His answer is that your head is already full of subjects and the only work is redirecting them onto a page, and he compares it to keeping a diary you never had to plan.

Three posts is a small shelf and this one earns its place anyway. Work through the checklist against a page you have already published and see how many items you have missed.
