What does it mean to you to be successful in your life? What is your definition of success?

Restored from the Empower Network archive (2011–2017), lightly edited to meet our current advertising standards. Views are the original author’s.

Success…this is the first definition of success that came up when I typed “success definition” into Google:

Noun

  1. The accomplishment of an aim or purpose.
  2. The attainment of popularity or profit.

Synonyms

  • hit – prosperity – luck – achievement – triumph – speed

What is your definition of success?

For me, it changes….

It used to be clearly a financial definition.

Then I went to college, and it became a career definition (of course after it became a definition of getting the girl…..:) )

Now, I think that my definition is changing again.  You see, as I have been working for over 20  years now in the corporate world, I’ve realized that my definition of success has nothing to do with financial or career.  It’s entirely dependent on my goals.  My goals are different now.

When I was going to college, I had a goal of playing in a band and becoming a rock star.  I had the long hair, the ripped jeans and the funky guitar (red on top of it) to completely deck out the wardrobe.  I had the full getup, with one exception.  I hated smoke.  I couldn’t sing when there was smoke around and I hated the way my clothes smelled after coming out of a bar for 6 hours of playing.

My definition of success changed…to not include smoky bars.  Kinda make it hard to play in a band in Fargo, North Dakota….

So I got a business degree.

Yes, the degree that 56% of everyone else was getting, so that I could go out into the work force with 56% of my friends and all try to get the same J.O.B.

I wasn’t done there…I wanted more.  I wanted freedom to do the things that I loved doing.  And working for someone else didn’t really appeal to me.

Does it appeal to you?

Are you looking for something different?

Is your definition of success changing?

Mine has and it’s all about time freedom now.

My definition of success is emerging again and it’s taking the form of marketing.   Specifically network marketing with a company called Empower Network.

Why EN…well, I’ve been on the internet trying to build sites and setup things to help other local businesses get found, and it’s not easy….

But, with EN, they take care of all the hard stuff.  The infrastructure, the sales funnel, they even have the sales videos.  The really awesome part of EN is that I can be me.  I don’t have to be someone else, or hide behind a sales presentation.  If this isn’t for someone, that’s completely fine, because I’ll just move on.

I want people who want to change their definition of success, not those who are happy working for someone else and want the ‘security’ of a corporate job.  Personally, I’ve been burned too many times by a ‘secure’ corporate job and believe that I’m responsible for my own security.  And I OWN it!

Where are you?

What makes you happy?

What is YOUR definition of success?

What are you waiting for…. permission to be happy?  Only you own that right to give yourself permission to be happy.  No one else can do that but YOU!

There are options out there.  There are other ways, but you have to learn how to get out of your comfort zone and be aggressive.  Go after your dreams and change your definition of success!

It’s within your reach!
