Spending time with the people that matter the most

Restored from the Empower Network archive (2011–2017), lightly edited to meet our current advertising standards. Views are the original author’s.

It’s the weekend and most people who are living in the 9 – 5 world are

working for the weekend.

Phrases like this are all over the place:

Wednesday is hump day… half way trough the week

Thursday is ‘almost Friday’… one day left

and of course there’s TGIF…

TGIF is so popular that there’s a restaurant chain named TGIF.

and then… there’s oh god, it’s Monday tomorrow….

Wouldn’t it be nice if the days where just days and the weekends were just weekends and the time that you had available was spent how you like it?

How many of us are ‘working for the weekend’?  The 80′s rock group Loverboy had a song titled that….it’s what we were all taught.  Right?

We are trained even at a young age that we should follow these steps:

  1. go to school
  2. go to college
  3. get a job in ‘the best companies’
  4. work until you’re 65
  5. save enough money while you’re working until you’re 65 to retire
  6. enjoy your retirement

When here is what really happens

  1. Go to school
  2. go to college (build up a bunch of debt and wonder what you’ll do when you graduate)
  3. get a job as an entry level person at a no name company for just above minimum wage
  4. spend the rest of your career trying to find a better paying job because it will be easier when you make just a little more money.
  5. barely save enough for retirement because you’re trying to pay off college, then you have kids and then, then then…
  6. reach retirement age and go look for another job that you can do after you retire because you still need to eat.

Honestly… tell me which scenario is more accurate in today’s societies? 1 or 2?

Which path are you on?

Are you ‘working for the weekend’?

This thought alone is my motivation to get out of this rat race. I titled this ‘spending time with the people that matter the most’.

If you have a family, spouse or anyone else that’s close and means a lot to you, you probably want to spend time with them.

But it usually works out more like the song ‘cat’s in the cradle‘…doesn’t it.

Every time I hear that song or read those lyrics, my eyes tear up. How much of our the lives that we are living are passing us by while we focus on the wrong thing…. chasing the dollar, trying to get the next promotion and thinking that is the way it should be.

IT’S NOT…

Life is meant to be lived. It’s meant to be enjoyed and time meant to be spent with people you live. The people that matter the most. Who is that to you? Your boss? Your team under you at work?

OR

Is it your kids and your spouse, and your parents, and your friends…..

Stop kidding yourself that the answer is when there’s a little more money. If you don’t figure out how to be happy now, enjoy the life you have and find something that not working for the weekend, then life is going to continue as it is right now.

You MUST change in order to change. Einstein’s definition of insanity is doing the same thing over and aver again and expecting a different result….

If you want it, you’ve gotta go get it. Change now so that you can spend time with the people that matter the most, the idea of working for the weekend is gone and you get up every day believing it’s Saturday.

The best way that I have fount on a path toward ditching the 9 – 5 is here.

Click this link, enter your email address and watch how doing these 3 things can put you on the path toward spending more time with your family.

You’ve gotta want to change. If you don’t and you like where you are, I can’t do anything to help you.

What you’ll hear will inspire you.
