LifeChanger Lessons – June 26, 2012

Step-by-step guide teaching you how 3 letters doubled my traffic in 24 hours….

I couldn’t believe it either.  I was watching a video on Youtube when the thought hit me.  The guy in the video said something about using documents to increase viewership on your blog.  It didn’t sink in at first, but about 20 minutes later the light bulb went off in my head.

Let me explain the thought process before I go any further.  Today, millions of people are buying mobile devices such as smartphones, ipods, ipads, etc.  The interface on these products makes is easy to download apps and documents with just a few taps of the screen.

When I realized the power of this in our world I knew right then I had to test my theory.  So here is a step-by-step guide and what I did to get my traffic to double to my blog within 24 hours.  Follow along and all this will makes sense at the end….

Step #1 – Sign-up for document submission sites.  All accounts are free.  Here is a list of sites that I signed up for to get you started:

  • scribd.com
  • crocodoc.com
  • docstoc.com
  • calameo.com
  • issuu.com
  • wepapers.com
  • 4shared.com
  • edocr.com
  • free.yudu.com
  • esnips.com

Once you sign-up for these sites then you can start uploading documents to the site.  Why is this important??  Think about this.  When you upload a document to a document sharing site it gets immediate views.  I noticed that my first document I uploaded got 20 – 30 views immediately.  As people search for relevant information that is related to your document your page views on that document will increase.

Your document has to be converted to a PDF file (hence the 3 letters that doubled my traffic in 24 hours) before you can upload it….

If you were on the go, needed information fast and found a free downloadable PDF document that met your needs would you download it??  Of course you would.  And millions of people are doing this everyday.  Follow me close now….

With that being said….once a person downloads your document they always have that document to reference.  Immediate branding for you.  Everytime they look at that document they see your name.  And here is where it gets super cool.

When you save a document to PDF format you are saving clickable links too.  Everything is saved.  You can click on a link in a PDF document just by holding the control button down and hitting enter.  Bammmmmm…..

That is what increases your traffic to your website immediately.

Step #2 – Saving a document in PDF format.  It is easy to save a document in PDF.  Once you have created your document then click on “File” then click on “Save as”.  When your pop-up window comes up you will see a box that says “Save as type”.  Click and a drop down menu will appear.  Select “PDF”.  That’s it.  (This is how I do it on my PC).

Step #3 – Go to the document sharing site.  I will use scribd.com in this example.  When you open up scribd.com.  Sign-in first, then you will see a big blue button at the top that says “Upload”.  Click it.  On the next screen click on the big blue button again that says “Select file: Upload”.  Select your PDF file you want to upload and click open.  Then Scribd.com takes it from there.  It will ask you for a brief description, what category to place the document in and tags/title.

Step #4 – Once you have uploaded your document then click on the document title so you can see the document.  You will notice to the left of the document are your sharing buttons (Twitter, Facebook, LinkedIn and Google Plus).  Use all these sharing buttons immediately.  Share your document with the world.

Step #5 – Go to Pingler.com and Ping.fm to ping out your Scribd.com link to your document.  The more you share the more views you will get.  Again, this is how my traffic doubled in 24 hours.  Simple and effective.

Step #6 – Sit back and know that you are making a difference.

Here is a sample of one of my documents to give you an idea what a finished document looks like on the Scribd.com website.

This is what I am doing everyday to increase my traffic to my blog.  You can use this technique for anything.  I have noticed documents that teach and help others get more views.  People are willing to share the document because they hold more value.

Mobile devices aren’t going anywhere and sales of these devices increase every day.  Think outside the box on this one and watch your traffic shoot to the moon.

If you have any questions about this method of getting traffic to your website, feel free to look me up on Facebook.  Or Twitter.  Or LinkedIn.  You get the idea.
