You have probably heard the expression “Practice makes Perfect”. It is usually used when learning a skill. The idea is that anything you do, you have to do it many times before you get good at it.
In this blog post I will talk more about this.
Video: Practice makes Perfect
Think about it.
In life
Even a baby who is learning to feed itself or walk, does a lot of practicing when he falls and makes a mess before he learns how to do it properly. After several months of practice, he will be running around and eating everything he can get his hands on.
In Business
The same is true when starting a new business. Any action that you are not used to doing is difficult at first and takes a lot of time.
Let’s say you are writing and syndicating a blog or a video. Unless you are used to writing or making videos, the process seems daunting. You don’t know where to start. It may take you hours to write a few paragraphs or 10-20 times before a one or two minute video looks good enough that you feel you can post it.
Then you have to get it on the internet. Again, every step seems to take forever. You were told that in a few hours a day you can do a business, but it seems to take much more. That is part of the learning curve. If you continue to do it every day, with time it will become easier and you will find that you can do it in less time and better.
Consistancy
The problem is that many people aren’t consistant. Because it takes so long, they don’t do it every day. Every time they do it, it feels like the first time because they don’t remember what to do and have to start all over.
I decided that to have a successful business there are 3 main things I have to do every day. I have to blog, learn and market. But some days I only had time for one and I found a week would go by and I would only blog twice or market 3 times.
How to become consistant
Recently, I came up with a solution that is helping me overcome this. I time myself. If give myself one hour to write a blog, one to learn and one to market. Once the time is over, I leave it and move on to the next. If I finish one early, I go do something else and if I have extra time, I can end with the one I want to spend more time on or go back to it at the end. Some days I don’t finish the post or train, so I continue the next day. As time goes on, I get better and finish the tasks sooner and get more acccomplished.
I found that this way, I am working on all three areas every day and I feel better about myself that I am accomplishing more over time.
There are times that the time runs out and I am in the middle of something so I continue a little more. It is not a strict framework, but overall I manage to work better because of it. My assumption is that within a short period of time, I will be doing all three activities in less than the 3 hours and can add more activities or do more in each.
Try it
Give it a try and let me know what you think. Your main activities may be different than mine. The first thing you have to do is decided what the things you should do every day to succeed.
Let me know in the comments how it works for you, and I’ll do the same.
