Using Campaigns Correctly on Autoresponders
Restored from the Empower Network archive (2011–2017), lightly edited to meet our current advertising standards. Views are the original author’s.
If you are capturing leads and building a list, you are most likely using what is called an autoresponder. This is a program that helps you capture leads, keeps track of your lists and send them emails.
There are several autoresponders on the market. The most popular are Get Response and Aweber. I use Get Response so I will show examples with it.
A Common Mistake that can be easily avoided
Today I will go over one of the common mistakes that people make when they are starting out. In upcoming posts I will show in more detail how to use autoresponders.
Campaigns
One of the important things to keep in mind when using any autoresponder is to use the campaigns in the right way. Many newbies, including me, don’t know understand this and get things mixed up.
Unique Campaign for every Offer
The most important thing is to have a different campaign for every offer you have. For example I have 2 different blogs and different products within my main offer that I am promoting. I also have leads, people who are interested in something but still haven’t bought or signed up and I have buyers or affiliates.
Different interests
I have a different campaign and list for each group. People who are interested in my blog about Israel, may not be interested in my Internet marketing blog or the other way around. Someone who has already bought doesn’t want to get an email asking why they haven’t bought yet. You get my point.
Web Form
The first step is usually setting up a web form to capture the leads. Here is where you need to make sure that the web forms for a specific product or service will send the leads to the right campaign.
As you can see in the screen shot below, the current campaign is in the upper right corner where it is circled. You can change it by clicking the downwards triangle that the arrow is pointing to.
What is nearly impossible is to remember who is interested in what when they are all in the same campaign list. You can manually move people from one list to another if you know that is what they want or if you put them in the wrong list. But it is much easier to use different campaigns from the beginning.
Autoresponders
Once you have the leads in the right campaign you will want to email them. There are two types of emails.
Autoresponders that go out after a certain time or event to everyone who reaches that time or event. It is common to have a series of autoresponders that go to new people during their first week or two to welcome them and give them basic information.
These are set up to go to one campaign and you can pick which one when you set it up. See the circled area in the screenshot.

Newsletters
The second type are newsletters that go out on an ongoing basis to send information and news. Make sure you are on the campaign you want when creating the newsletter.
Again it is in the upper right corner. (Circled in the screen shot)

After you send the newsletter, there isn’t a way to change it that I have found. When you get to the point where you send it, you can decide which list to send it to but if listed it under the wrong campaign, you won’t be able to check all the newsletters you sent to that specific campaign. This makes it harder to track what you are sending to that group and who is opening what.
There are some newsletters that I can send to several lists. For example, general internet marketing information like this can be sent to any list that relates to internet marketing, whether they are buyers, leads or readers of the blog. Others will only go to specific lists. Get Response makes it easy to send a newsletter to multiple campaign lists as seen below. You can choose one or more list and even specific people within a list.

Get Response
Get Response gives you a free month trial and then you pay according to the size of your list. You can check it out here and get credit for up to another 2 months from me.
