Spyl’s Financial Advice Tweets: Episode 1

Let this serve as a shoutout to one of my Twitter pals SPYlosophy, one financial adviser you can hang on to not to borrow money or run to every time you get in trouble with the bank. That’s not how she helps people. And she offers some of these financial tips on her Twitter account (@SPYlosophy). I would like to share some of the insights that I have learned from seeing them on my timeline.
(There was one time I enjoyed seeing her tweets that I returned the favor by tweeting her animated images of Ryan Gosling with his shirt off. That’s what friends are for. Hahaha)
Here are some things I learned from her timeline:
“Dont tell me where your priorities are. Show me where you spend your money and I’ll tell you what they are” – James W Frick
That actually made sense especially for women who spend now ask later “Where did all my money go?” Trust me. I’ve been there and I’m not proud of it. This is why I have high respect for accountants who have successfully applied their anal-retentive approach to keeping receipts even if it involved personal expenses. It’s not just for ITR purposes. It’s more for keeping a paper trail of cash flow.
The question is not “How much you make money?”. Important is, “How do you manage money?” #SPYLosophy #Finance
Between a person who wears the big paycheck on her sleeve and a person with a steady source of income diverted into healthy investments, who do you expect to get a better chance of early retirement? As you can see, even early retirement options are available even to those who considered themselves too young for it as long as they have secured a stable future for them and a means to make money work for them instead of purely working for the money. This is why some of her tweets included tips on investing in the Philippine Stock Exchange.
“The easiest way for your children to learn about money is for you not to have any.” – Katharine Whitehorn #FamilyFinance
Some children wail in the corner, throw hissy fits and tantrums and bawl their eyes out crying upon being refused an increase in daily allowance. They haven’t realized that keeping a steady, unchanging allowance is better than none at all. And some haven’t realized it yet that an increase in daily allowance doesn’t solve their daily wants. It only aggravates it. More money doesn’t always solve poverty. It only adds up to greed at some point.
When do I expect an episode of Episode 2 then, you ask. Follow @SPYlosophy on Twitter and then let’s see where does this financial advisor take us. If there is any assurance I guarantee you, she’s the bomb. (Lab yu)
