Almost everybody that I talk to about losing weight talks to me about going on a diet. I always tell them that diets don’t work.
This article will go into some key details as to why they don’t work. They never have and they never will. And if you or someone you know wants to do it, share this article with them before they go through some great failures in weight loss.
Why Diets Don’t Work
There are logical reasons why they don’t work. But perhaps the most logical one is that anything you do temporary will never create long term results. Well, at least in dieting anyways.
In order for you to fully understand why so often they fail, you might want to consider how you gain weight to begin with. Lets really dive into this now. Focus here for a minute.
The body stores fat (gains weight) when there is an excess of food being eaten. The equation for how the body works is simple. If you eat more than what your body burns (uses) you will gain weight.
With that being said, if that’s the equation for gaining weight, whats the equation for losing weight? You guessed it. If you eat a little less than what your body burns, you will lose weight. The equation is that simple. But what does dieting say?
Well, what does dieting mean? Easy. Its the method of weight loss that includes you abstaining from the foods you love to eat, probably bad foods, temporarily in order to make the body become lighter in weight.
Whats The Problem?
What happens when all of a sudden you stop eating the foods that your body is used to? You will crave it like a fat boy craves a chocolate bar. No offense if your a fat boy. I’ve been there too. In fact, read my weight gain story to see how I went from 160 pounds to 220 pounds.
Anyway, when you begin to crave a certain kind of food and you are in a diet, whats likely to happen? Well, you try to resits as much as possible until you can’t no more and then you go to the fridge and stuff yourself with whatever you find.
In this process, something inside you happened. Before you ditched the diet, something inside your body stopped working properly. Ever heard of your metabolism? That’s right. When you diet, your metabolism decreases. And when that bad boy decreases, it becomes super easy for your body to store food as fat.
One of the most common mistakes people make is that they stop eating because they are in a “diet” and what they are really doing is setting up their bodies to actually gain weight. Now don’t get me wrong. Sometimes you will lose weight. But the second you ditch the diet, the diet will ditch you. You may have started weighing 180 pounds. You dieted and you lost 10 pounds to weigh in at 170 pounds. But when you stop dieting, your body may go up to 185 pounds.
So don’t make the mistake of dieting. Rather, eat a little less of the things you are eating now. Use the “cut back” formula. Although I recommend a total lifestyle change, I still believe that cutting back is a much more efficient way of losing weight.
