WordPress as a Content Managment Software to make money

Restored from the Empower Network archive (2011–2017), lightly edited to meet our current advertising standards. Views are the original author’s.

One thing that’s particularly good about using Word press is that using it as a Content Management system (a CMS) means that if and when you have other people creating your blog content for you (which you may well decide to do…) you can manage the process of them getting the content up on to your sites easily, without having to lift a finger yourself.

Many people think that Word press is “just for blogs” and then think about blogs in a very traditional ‘blog’ format. But the fact is, if you are using the free open source software on your own server (and have your own domain), it is truly a fully featured content management system.

Using Word press to build your website means that you can use as few features or as many features as you need for your website. You can have a very basic 3-10 page website that outlines your off line business and what services you offer, or you could have an all singing and all dancing e Commerce site (think Amazon and e Bay). And anything in between.

There is no doubt that Word press is not just for use as a blogging platform any longer. Due to the fact that it is open source software (so can be added to, improved and amended by anyone) many developers all over the world work around the clock increasing the functionality of Word press so if a function is not here today, it will be tomorrow.

One major purpose of using a site with a decent content management system behind it is that it will allow your ‘team’ (freelancers, expert contributors, guest posters and more) to add content to your website on their own.

Word press has a fantastic administrative area called a Dashboard. You can add users that have different permissions for all the various functions in the dashboard. Users can be assigned as several different levels such as:

Administrator – Access to everything
Editor – Can manage, publish and edit all posts and pages
Author – Can manage, publish and edit their own posts only
Contributor – Can write and edit posts but not publish them
Subscriber – Can manage their profile, read and comment on posts

Being able to control these features can add a lot of possibilities for you. The other feature that makes WordPress an exciting and usable content management system for your business is that inside the dashboard users with the right privileges can use the WYSIWYG editor. This means, “what you see is what you get” and it is very useful for people to use that have no knowledge of HTML code to use to edit a page or a blog post.

The user can make the page or post look however they want without coding so pages or posts are made in a snap.

What’s even better is that this can be accomplished from any web browser from any computer. As long as they have the log in information and an Internet connection, they can do this from any computer, any browser, at anytime. If any user knows HTML code they can do even more by simply activating the code view portion of the editor when creating a page or a post.

A page is a normal website page that any website has, a post is the place where blog posts go. The options are many when using WordPress as your content management system for your business.
Wordpress is your answer, no matter what kind of site you’d like to create…
Due to the large variety of exceptional WordPress Themes along with the ability to easily modify the themes, your website can be up and running very quickly indeed.

If you can’t find a theme that you like it’s easy to find a developer to create a unique theme just for your business. WordPress websites don’t need to lead with the blog, with a few clicks your site can have it’s own unique homepage. In fact, you don’t even have to have a blog included on the WordPress website (although it is highly recommended that you do.)

WordPress might have started out as a blogging platform but today, WordPress can be used for all kinds of websites. It doesn’t matter what type of website you want, with WordPress you can find plugins, or have them created that extends the basic functions of the WordPress platform to do almost anything you want it to do.

Due to the fact that WordPress is open source software there are legions of developers working on making WordPress better around the clock.

Whether creating a blog or a full featured website with WordPress it’s really just a matter of clicks having your site up and running. Start with a list of what you want your site to look like and do, so that you’ll know what type of plugins to look for before you get started. Plugins are small programs that create things such as a shopping cart, affiliate program, membership site, social sharing or other functionality on your website.

It’s also important to know what type of theme you want to use and whether it is compatible with the way you want to use it or not. Sometimes you can find examples of how the theme is being used. If you can’t find a theme you like it’s not hard to find a developer to create a custom theme for you based on your written description of what you want it to accomplish.

It doesn’t matter how you create the site at first, with WordPress upgrades and updates are simple as changing or adding another plug in or theme all without losing the content you already have.

I could praise WordPress all day long, and I urge you to get in touch with your thoughts, questions and reservations about using WordPress for your sites. I love hearing from you.
