Flying a paramotor looks like a stunt until somebody explains what you actually buy first. James Johnson teaches powered paragliding in the Okanagan Valley of British Columbia, and the flying posts are the reason to be here: what to look for in a first machine, how to take the first step toward getting airborne behind what one post cheerfully calls a giant butt fan, and what climbing Mount Everest with one would involve.

The blog also carries the rest of a life. It records a boat ride to Coron after ten days of teaching in San Jose, a neighbour who runs a natural hoof care practice in the valley, and a roundup of free phone apps.

The gratitude posts do more than the word usually promises. The writing comes out of a childhood where complaining was not allowed, and it treats gratitude as a habit you practise rather than a slogan you repeat.

Skip the app roundup unless that is your thing. Read the flying posts if you have ever watched one go over and wondered what it takes, and the gratitude ones on a day when nothing feels like it is moving.
